So I'm curious as to how many of the classic forum users actually box or have boxed in the past themselves. I don't mean professionally. I mean who has been to the gym and has at least 4 months of boxing experience? Personally I have been doing it for about 5 months. It gave me a new found appreciation for all the old time greats. Charley Burley being a great example. I mean once you box for a little, and get used to the movements. You look at someone like Ali's footwork in prime, and you just cant help but to think "How....in the.....hell"
awesome, how does it affect your perception on old time greats? Did your respect for them and their abilities increase as you became more experienced in boxing?
The more I learn from a technical standpoint, the more I tend to notice it in great fighters. For example my trainer mentioned about how Ali used angles to maximise his reach and lash in shots and I began to notice it in other greats.
You may know me.I am former junior middleweight champion Masashi Kudo, often considered(quite rightly if i do say so) as the greatest pure boxer japan has yet produced. You can see me in action on youtube.
lora, seriously. Did you box? Because the technical/tactical knowledge you show is very impressive, one a boxer or a trainer would have.
i've been boxing for 2 years and it makes me appreciate any man who has the heart to step into that ring with fans screaming like crazy.
My respect for their ability to capitalize on key openings that only come once in a fight has greatly increased. I also have more respect for the way the great fighters had to take some very hard shots and shake them off like they were nothing.
