Watching the fight, I remember I thought he could win and was pissed they stopped it. Sometimes you overlook things like a serious cut like that while watching live especially when his opponent(Lewis) looked worse and more tired. Half of Vitali's face was cut to shreds yet it was Lewis leaning on the ropes with his hands down looking obviously exhausted and ready to be taken. Vitali had many moments like that but didn't bite and who can blame him, he had one eye and was still outlanding Lewis.

Fight it over, Vitali was stopped on serious cuts, possible one of the worst cuts in a heavyweight boxing match. And being stopped on cuts = TKO, it has always been this way. People can start as many threads about Ali/Cooper it still won't change nothing. Lewis win, Vitali was praised/admired for a courageous performance. People looked at Vitali as a tomato can with no heart who will get KO'd within 4 rounds at most, Vitali changed their opinion and people loved it. The division won that night.

I still believe that Vitali would've won without the cut. Lewis retired after that fight, and that is a FACT. LL didn't want anymore of VK, but I swear that Lennox's gloves were about like Margarito's(fixed).

I think the American commentary played a big part in shaping Lewis - Klitschko for the masses of...less perceptive fans. Jim Lumpen was jabbering on about how "it's all Lennox Lewis can do to stand up..!" and so on in the final round, all while Vitali was the one holding for dear life and falling all over him after being rocked numerous times in said three minutes.

Vitali looked far worse than Lewis did during and after the final round, and not only facially.

Vitaly broke lewis down mentally if the fight had continued lewis would have most likely quit on his stool like others before and after him. Vitaly crushed his spirit just like sam peters and made him yellow. Lewis had balls before the vitaly fight and never backed down to no one but i lost alot of respect when he retired without a rematch. I know he would of lost the rematch but he would of been a greater fighter in many eyes if he went out on his back. PS he was only 37 and planing to have a few more fights and was on top as undisputed champion there is no excuse.

Holyfield gave Lewis rematch after their 1 fight, which was robbery
    Rahman gave Lewis rematch
    McCall gave Lewis rematch
Lewis didn't give Mercer rematch, while many had Mercer winning there
Lewis didn't give Holyfield rematch after their 2 fight, which was close and many had draw
    Lewis didn't give rematch Vitaly

Lewis was getting stronger as the fight went on and beginning to take cotrol landing the much bigger shots. I think that ole , out of shape, uninterested Lewis would have stopped Klit in the later rounds. Just shows you how good Lewis was!

I don't see the point in speculating on what MIGHT have happened, Vitali's eye could have been lost if he continued, that just cannot be allowed to happen. Lennox won that fight, we see a lot of robberies on POINTS where the guy who lands more power shots is shafted, but this is an example of the rare occasions when the KO doesn't go to the superior pugilist.

Do I think Lennox legitimately won the fight? Damn right. Do I think Klitschko would have won a rematch? Damn right again. Do I think Lennox chickened out of his stated intent to "Bust open the other eye"? Yes again.

Sorry, Vitali, you've made a truckload of cash since, so LL got away. Whoop-dy-****ing-doo. Suck it up and move on.

wtf??? how manny LL right hands do u seriously think Vitali would take before quittin?? I listed a number of fights where Lewis got off to slow starts, he was a slow starter at times, he would've destroyed Vitali, he already hurt him, he would've just toppled him

Lewis heart was no longer in the game so it made sense to just retire and even if he did rematch Klit and Klit won it would have been tarnished by the fact Lewis was over the hill.

Vitali Klit was going life an death with a uninterested and slightly out of shape Lewis dare I say it = shot. The way I see it as the fight went on Lewis started to take control and out times outclasses Klit and probably would have stopped him in the later rounds.

probably not shot, definitely underconditioned, winded after like 4. I don't care after that 6th I mean 1 right hand would do the trick
