Less important than the ass Werdum kicked in BJJ.

Not to mention he got stopped by Hari 2 fights ago; he is doing well in K1, not a champion.

I believe right now Overeem has the most ability but he has to prove he is the best by beating top calibre opposition.

Fedor is the best heavyweight on the planet.
Just like GSP was still the best WW on the planet after Serra beat him.

GSP never had anyone close enough in ability to challenge that. Fedor does

I think it important to point out that Fedor followed Werdum to the mat to complete what he thought would be a conclusive gnp. Next time Fedor will adjust and keep it on the feet. Dos Santos destroyed Werdum on the feet and Arlovski won a boring decision standing up the whole time. If it does go the ground Fedor is more than capable as we have seen countless times over the years.

Overeem is a whole different animal. His standup game is nasty. His ground game is credible but not spectacular. I think Overeem will be the undisputed number one if he beats Fedor and avenges his loss to Werdum. Then maybe he signs with the UFC and tests his skills against the best over there.

    Guy,

Fedor gets caught in a submission during a fight he was winning at the time ONCE...after a decade of domination.

Overeem gets beat by a list of fighters he's faced over the past decade, but has been on a winning streak lately and now all of a sudden he is better than fedor????

Please, don't act like one of those stupid ranking systems. Until Fedor loses again, or shows significant signs of deterioration, he is STILL the best on the planet!

People need to stop mentioning Overeems past. He's peaked and his steroid body has peaked and he's now a totally different machine. It reminds me when people rag on about Pacquiao's past. They have both - with the help of a little juice - transformed into totally different uber machines

I dont know if he's currently better than Fedor. Fedor is the GOAT, but right now, it's very hard to say who'd win if they fought. Sadly, i get the feeling the drug monsta would win :-(

Muscle isn't going to improve his technical ground game or his chin.

You're waxing on semantics that to be honest are irrelavent. Overeem has gone up in weight and put on steller performances. We know this by the nature of his performances and the results. The extra weight and muscle mass has CERTAINLY helped. The muscle he has added has been sports specific. His chin has noticeably got better at the higher weight as has his conditioning.
As for his ground game Overeem is no slouch at all. I dont understand why you to continue to insinuate that he is. Overeem's strengths is his standup. He knows this. Thats why he's in the K1. That said he is a complete mixed martial artist with a more than adequate ground game and twice the amount of experience out of any of the heavys in the UFC.

More than adequate for most fighters, not for Werdum or Fedor.

its so hard to determine a best in mma really..in boxing a better fighter can lose to worst one...but it is a rarer fluke...you have gloves that minimze the one punch danger a bit... in mma one shot can reallly end a fight so much easier...also....you can be better on the ground in every way..but its still very possible to just get caught in something stupid...all these means its so much harder to determine who is really the best. Fedor was such a freak because he dominated for so long...right now though..who really knows who is the best..they have to start fighting each other.

But we know that. Whats the point in arguing that though? Conversely Overeems striking is leagues ahead of Fedor and Werdum's. Thats the beauty of MMA.

    styles make fights...

Overeem got beat by Werdum...he should first have his ****ing rematch against werdum imo. Fedor also lost to werdum. (in such a surprising & ****ing stupid fashion i might add but he got caught right in the first round)...

It doesn't mean that werdum is #1 of course...

But due to fedor's little activity...i think it's hard to rank anyone and say they're number 1...

we know that fedor is the goat...he has nothing to prove at this point...

but is he the current # 1 ?

Who knows...we'll have to see what happens in his next fight
he could potentially lose against Big foot...(or werdum , in a rematch)...or not.

As for Overeem , he's basically in the same boat...he seems more preocupied with K1 than mma too...

He could be. BUT he's got to beat Fedor, Barnet and Werdum first. Simple as that...
