Well, Saturday night when UFC has a PPV on at 10pm while boxing has a card on basic cable at 9pm or boxing has a PPV on at 9pm and UFC has a basic cable card on ...I dont know any fight fan personally who chooses to watch the UFC in either scenario. My gym is full of strikers so they're a bit biased.
I used to be a huge fan when Pride FC and K-1 heroes were the dominant players. I'm a big Japanese pro wrestling fan and watching pride was just like watching another Japanese pro wrestling organisation. If you watched shoot style pro wrestling then Japanese mma was basically just the continuation of that. When pride died I got on the UFC train but I would say probably about 2 years ago I stopped watching mma. I catch the occasional fight but it doesn't really interest me. I never lost interest in Boxing but yeah ufc doesn't do much for me these days. A women's title match ending in like 35 secs and a fight I can watch in full in one gif seems like BS to me.
First one I saw was UFC 3 on ppv......im more into MMa as ive been involved in martial arts and aspects of it on/off since the early 90's...I train with a former world Mui Thai champ who was actually offered a contract to be in UFC one back in 92/93,but he turned it down because they were getting paid like 500 dollars and that's if you won,and no insurance or legal issues if you died, first place did get you 60 grand though, however getting 100 dollars to just step into the cage then with little rules and no weight classes is a testament to how much we as fans owe these guys who created the sport from the ground up..:yikes
I loved Pride, could never get into the UFC the same. Loved the different Grand Prix they held, Saku vs the Gracies etc.. Sakuraba vs Carlos Newton is an all-time favorite.
I try to catch it after boxing on Saturdays, other than that I have a list of fighters who have captured my interest, I try my best to watch their fights/cards.
