The first magazine I ever bought was Boxing Weekly- 1989/90. It tried to compete with BN by using some colour on its cover. I bought all the Boxing Outlook's too.

I agree with you about Boxing Illustrated in the 60's especially the British input, British candid camera and what have you and the top 50 ratings. I thought the Ring was at it's best in the late 70's, early 80's but I stopped getting it in the 90's.
I still subscribe to the Boxing news and I think I've probably got every one since 1960.
Do you remember Boxing World, a British mag in the early/mid 70's?

Well, not such much remember but know of it. There was that and Boxing Pictorial, which seemed to feature a lot of UK stuff.

Having every BN from 1960 is some going. Very impressive. I have most issues from 1966 to 1992, with a few missing here and there. I have most BI's from that era too. A great mag. Old Reggie writing for them and also many articles by the likes of Gene Fullmer, Jose Torres and Floyd Patterson.

Talking of BI, while looking up some Cleveland Williams info for a debate in classic I came across a piece on Ryan O'Neal and he mentioned your old man in it. :yep

Boxing Illustrated rankings used to be in the centre pages sponsored by Budweiser if I remember right and they ranked 20 fighter per division.

A good mag, but the columnists not as good as The Ring where Jeff Ryan is always a good read if you like that style of writing.

I bought Boxing Monthly from seeing the first one in a big boxing section in John Menzies (Tyson was on the front if I remember right) and must have bought Boxing Weekly but I really can't remember it so it couldn't have gone on long.

I rarely buy Boxing News now - just got out of the habit when I barely saw any boxing in the late 90s (no Sky) and stopped being interested to be honest. Occasionally buy now - perhaps I need to subscribe as it's an excellent paper, especially for finding out about fights coming up.

I get BM on subscription for Xmas every year from me Mum and Gran. Saves me getting some shite that I don't want and they like boxing so it works..cheers to the Mum and Gran Express

which was the boxing magazine in the early 60,s which had wrestling in it too?
i used to get the ring magazine the late 70's through till the 90's,boxing pictorial, illustrated and whatever else.the american magazines used to really take the **** out of uk (70's) heavies but i guess they've nowt to laugh at now.

i used to buy boxing news in the late 80's and 90's,was a very good read, used to cover nealy all, if not all of the small hall shows around the UK.
started buying it from my local spar, for maybe a year now,it seems to not cover as many small hall shows,or maybe theres just no where near as many.

dinner with conteh, nice picture, but with the mighty burnley just getting promotion, watch out the mighty clarets are about:rofl:good

95% of the time it arrives on the Friday, though I have to say in recent weeks it's been late a few times, sometimes Saturday sometimes Monday (which is annoying as by Monday it's no longer "news" and all the fight previews are irrelevant by then). However, in all fairness during Easter when it was Good Friday it arrived on the Thursday before.

My experience is about the same. Having it on Easter Thursday was a first this year. If you sign up for 2 years you get the biggest savings.

On a Friday night I read it whilst the Mrs is watching Eastenders, and thus gaining brownie points to ensure Friday Fight night comes on at 10.00pm without argument.

No but I do buy Boxing News often..... too often.

I prefer Boxing Monthly though it's a meatier read, I buy that every month.

It was the savings on offer that tempted me to subscribe in the first place - I paid the lump sum at the beginning which I think worked out to around £1.50 per issue, or something like that, with the particular offer at the time. Until then I was getting it from my local newsagent at £2.70 an issue.
It's also a bargain when you consider the double xmas/new years issue, you're still only getting it for £1.50 (or thereabouts - whatever it worked out to be).
