How many on here think klitschko just didn't show up against fury?

Wlad isn't what he was, but he is far from shot. Saying that, i still think Fury would have beat a prime Wlad due to the stylistic match-up.

As we all know, Wlad, is very risk averse. Everything about his style screams it; weight on the back foot, arm punching a lot, never throwing to the body, doesn't counter punch, doesn't fight on the inside, backs up in straight lines when attacked instead of trying to block or slip shots, only throws his own shots if his man is stationary in front of him.

This last point is the most salient point from their fight that ultimately led to Fury's victory - he never provided Wlad with a static target. The Jennings, Haye and even the Ibragimov fight, as well as a few others, have shown that if you give Wlad upper body or foot movement, Wlad will refuse to let his hands go. He also doesn't have a plan B as he has dominated for a decade with the same tactical approach and incredibly limited fighting style. Add in the Wlad's concerns about his chin, then you have a man who wouldn't let his hands go rather than a man who couldn't let his hands go and you also have a man who just couldn't mentally or physically adapt on the fly.

Wlad has had a decade of being cautious and only throwing punches when he is comfortable. If you get an opponent who doesn't let Wlad get comfortable, then it is not unexpected to see Wlad fail to respond how a lot of other fighters would - throwing caution to the wind and going ***** out.

Wlad's limited style and mentality, which has gained him great success, was always eventually going to be his downfall. You can't fight the same basic way for so long and not expect someone to eventually come along and have the physical tools and right gam plan to overcome you.

Shot my ****, if Fury won I knew we'd hear about how Wlad was past it etc....

Maybe he isn't at 39 the same fighter he was a few years ago, but he certainly isn't shot or way past it... let's remember 2 fights previous to Fury against Pulev he put on his best showing in years.

Fury with his size, the way he judged the distance and his awkwardness didn't allow Wlad to set himself and get off, it was definitely more of a case of Fury making Wlad look poor rather than Wlad being over the hill.

 

I actually think Fury spooked Wlad in the build up to the fight, in the unpredictable press conferences & chat shows. Wlad started to fear Fury could beat him hence the reluctance to throw punches in the fight.

Was watching a video earlier of them 2 on face off & you could see the confidence Fury had going into the fight as well as the doubt that started to creep into Wlad face as the fight got closer, the video was on youtube under Wlad Fury face off.

I think K was amused by Fury's build-up shenanigans and thought they were a bit pathetic... but they also bemused him and contributed to a sense of Fury being unpredictable.

Come fight night, Fury starts with the herky-jerky movement and arrhythmic, staccato jabs. Everytime K reverts to his favorite tactic of grabbing, Fury just batters him in the ribs. Fury's punches weren't particularly harmful but K just could not get any sense of timing. And to my mind, he gave up hope of ever doing so - possibly in part because of Fury's pre-fight antics "how can you time a mad-man who doesn't know himself what he will do next?". The result, K becomes tentative and afraid to throw in case he gets countered....the most passive performance of his career.

 

This is exactly it, his jerky head movement totally threw Wlad he didn't know what to do and how to time anything.

He basically did what David Haye did against Wlad and was gunshy, scared to throw anything in the fear of getting KO'd.

 

Aye, K was tentative and afraid to throw - but Fury made him that way with his combination of in-ring and out-of-ring unpredictability. Fury has no great power, but presumably enough to sting and make a man reluctant to throw if he dreads being countered.

 

Klit was older a touch slower and fury was able to land his punches and not be in range of Wlad's. They were both ultra tentative in the early going but Fury's extra reach meant he could upset Wlad who doesn't throw a right hand unless his jab is working. That's been his mind set for years. I cant see it changing now all. I think fury wins and probably better than last time

 

If Wlad actually remembers to throw a punch in the rematch then he'll win easily.

Too many people taking credit away from fury, the guy never had 2 even move out of 1st gear, tyson i belive will beat him with ease next time

 

Pfft, Klitscko easily beats everyone in the division bar the Furys. Wilder must beat a top heavy I.e. Pov, Pulev, Haye even, Joshua, Parker, John Ruiz, Ortiz.....i'd rate a win over a shot Chisora as equal to his career best right now. Wlad and Fury are out on their own in the HW div.

Pretty much the gist. Though with how baffled he was byour Fury's movement there is the chance that even a 2015 Wladimir actually taking chances might've lost anyway.
