Thinking about the Lennox Lewis/ Jack Johnson thread ,got me to pondering how many of the other Heavyweight Champs does Lewis beat, prime for prime?
I think he beats all those before Johnson [haven't made my mind up about LL and JJ].
    Definitely; Willard, Schmeling,Sharkey,Carnera,Baer,Braddock,Patterson, L Spinks,Douglas,Wlad,Vitali,Marciano

    Probably; Tunney, Charles,Walcott,Holyfield,Frazier.

    Possibly; Dempsey,Louis, Liston, Holmes,Tyson,Foreman.
I don't think he would cope with Ali's speed.
What say you? Am I way off base, do you think?

I think he loses to Ali and Louis more often than not, and is 50/50 with Liston, Holmes and Tyson.

He definitely beats up Dempsey, Foreman (barring a lucky shot), Marciano and Wlad.

I think Lewis beats every single champion before him, if he fights them enough. And if he is at his best, and they are not, i think he will probably also beat all of them. Although, i think this is the case with many all time greats.

AS for those fighters you named, I think that Willard, Carnera and Baer would be a lot closer than most people think although obviously Lewis would and should be the favourite.

While i don think he beats Louis, Ali or Dempsey, i think it needs to be realised that he would pose a challenge every bit as tough as the toughest challengers these greats had overcome.

Of the champs he actually fought, i think Lewis Rahman, might be a difficult matchup for any Lewis, when Rahman is focussed. The combination of Chin and power is not Lennox' best choice of opponent. Despite the easy Tyson victory, i simply cant see Lennox beating prime Tyson, although Lennox does have the stylistic advantage.

Some others who i think Stylistically Lennox has a good chance of beating, although they would be great fights include Sonny Liston, Larry Holmes and Corbett.

And strangely, I dont think the long jab will worry Rocky Marciano or Joe Frazier as much as most think it will.

Head to head, if every top heavy fought with two points for a win and one for a draw, in a league style playoff, i think that Lennox would probably sneak into the top 8 finals and be a very dangerous sleeper in the finals, with the ability to go all the way but a top 5 finals system would see him miss out narrowly.

He was capable of beating any of them..his worst fate would have been getting nailed by Louis...who was capable of dispatching any of the champs.
lewis would have been quite capable of beating Ali if he fought a Holyfield I type of fight...a calculating, cautious, height and reach maximizing, cerebral type of strategy, IMO. He had the power to gain Ali's respect in case that was necessary.

holmes vs lewis would be battle of the jabs, very hard one to call.
i think ali would be a bit too quick for him and i think he could outbox foreman but with foremans power and chin i could see lewis possibly getting koed. beats tyson imo.

I'd give him a good shot of going 2 out of 3 against any HW in history. The only ones I give a shot winning 2 out of 3 would be Ali, Tyson, Holyfield, Holmes and that's it.

Marciano, Louis, Tunney, Charles,Walcott, Frazier, Dempsey, Liston, Foreman, Patterson, Johnson, Jeffries all have no chance of winning 2 out 3 - NADA

You see Foreman as having no chance?:admin

Surely Foreman has a good chance to outslug him twice?

I thought I'd get more stick for saying Louis had no chance, which he doesn't

Foreman was outboxed by Young and a past prime Ali. He was nearly ko'd by Lyle. Foreman is overrated because he is such a strong devastating puncher and retired before he could pick up more losses and came back and fought mainly bums before being outboxed a few times. All puncher's are overrated by the boxing fans

But let me ask you this:

    1. Who lands first Foreman or the faster technically better Lewis?
    2. If Foreman is outboxed by Old Ali and Young, can't Lewis do the same?
    3. If Lyle nearly knocks out Foreman and Ali knocked Foreman out wouldn't the bigger punching Lewis be quite capable of doing the same?

    it's not worth the arguement,

I tried to list all the S-HWs, rank them and break them down honestly...
and then fair them against traditional HWs.

which after you see the actual results of these giants against each other, and their results against taditional HWs, including their losses, then you can truely match them off against each other.

but as 'only' acheivements count, then naturally Lewis beats them all.

    he's the greatest ffs

I can't find gifs of Louis being ko'd by Schmelling and Marciano but they are worse more humiliating losses than a loss at altitude aged 34. Neither can I find a gif of Louis getting schooled by a 167lber and Walcott or losing to Godoy and Farr and him getting knocked down by about 100 different men but all those things happened anyway :yep

As a forenote, every champ has a punchers chance of knocking lewis out.

It's easier to name the guys i'd favour over lewis than vice versa.

    Louis
    Ali
    Tyson
    Foreman
    Liston

    Evens with holmes and wlad.

Favourite over everyone else from byrd to sullivan
