How many heavies down the years could have stopped Spinks in a round if they were in their prime and in the ring in `88 with Spinks instead of Mike?

It is possible that no other heavyweights would have done so.

somebody like Joe Louis might be able to do it, but you have to question whether he would.

Any heavy weight who was intimidating, KO artist like Louis, Marciano, Liston, Foreman, Lewis, possibly Lyle, Shavers, or Dempsey. Spinks was defeated before he entered the ring with Tyson. And it showed.

Forced to enter the ring. By the bell 78 former heavyweights stop Spinks in a minute. That body punch was bull****.

    Ohhhh, really? It was?

You take a right hook to the body from a young Tyson then.

Not many. Mike's style of going to the body and then to the head forced the smaller guys to have their chins tested early and they usually did not have the power to keep him off them. The bigger guys could extend Mike and hold on and use the strength to fight back. I always noticed how Mike took care of smaller guys easily even if they were exceptional fighters. The key to beating Mike is to fight back and rock him and take him momentum away. Not many guys did that when he was younger, but he really did not fight elites. But he fought good contenders.

Not many, IMO. Can't really think of any who had the combination of speed, power and precision needed to do it.

Any decent heavyweight. Michael Spinks was completely done as a fighter in 1988 much like Martinez was when he fought Cotto.

You've got to factor in that Spinks was intimidated by Tyson ,that much was obvious. He wasn't by Holmes or Cooney ,so its got to be a heavyweight that Installed fear and promise of fast pain .
So I'd go with Dempsey ,Liston ,Foreman or Lewis .Any of those I'd say could have maybe replicated Tyson .

I did. And I SURVIVED. You should wipe the slobber off your lips when you're talking about Tyson.

    It's impossible to say.
Spinks has an extremely limited record against heavyweights and in he was coming off a year's layoff for that fight.

TWO wins with an OLD Holmes. Holmes was never a puncher. The second fight was a dodgy decision.
A win against Steffen Tangstad. Not a world level fighter at all.
A win against Gerry Cooney. A big, inactive, overrated hype job.

    That's it.
Spinks might have been easy work for any decent prime heavyweight, even more likely by 1988.
    We don't know.

Tough to say, but Louis, Liston, Foreman, Lewis don't seem that far fetched to me.
