survive with todays rules and early stoppages. the way i see it ,not many. especially the ones that would take all a guy could dish out then come back and eat him alive. i.e. they would stopped a zale - graziano, marciano- charles and many others. would jake lamotta even be a contender? he took many ass whippings before winning.

Oh, I see, I thought you meant he would have been stopped.

Marciano would have won that fight on points under todays rules, as the punch was done by a elbow. IE the cut foul rule. They didnt have the cut foul rule in Marciano's day.

Although fights would get stopped more quickly past fighters would have advantages to offset this including standing counts, clinches being broken, rules on fouling being enforced, and protective cups up to their nipples.

Even with those advantages a guy like Bat Nelson would not do as well.

The protected cups up to the nipples, I dont see Joe Frazier doing well.

It's also double edged in many ways too.

Guys would get their own stoppage wins "easier" and lets remember they knew fights would keep going back in the day where now they would surely realise they would have to go hard for the win when under the distresses that were once let go.

Neither took abuse similar to LaMotta and co, from what I've seen.

As difficult as it becomes to view on film, not being in a position to note what LaMottas eyes suggested to the referee of the LaMotta/Dauthuille fight, I wonder a great deal, as to whether or not this fight would have been stopped today, prior to LaMotta opening up with his barrage and finishing Dauthuille. His abilities to absord punishment was second to very few, and his evasive skills and foxing ability was something to admire.

I think a guy like Basilio would have a tough time in recent times. The thing was swelling and cuts didn't bother him 1 iota. But the guys who swell up quickly had better be the house fighter and not the road warrior.

I also wonder if a guy like Little Red Lopez would've had some of his fights stopped when he got dropped in there. If memory serves correct, the guy was down 9x in fights he came back and won. Incredible. Not exactly the characteristics of so many of the frontrunner types the sport has in recent times. But you tend to think there would've been a stoppage loss or 2 mixed in there for Lopez.

What Marciano or LaMotta fight would have been stopped today ? I can't think of any ... even the famous second Charles fight was not blood going into an eye nor was Rocky taking serious punishment...it was more of a freakish cut ..

they would have stopped the lamotta srr last fight in the eleventh after jakes last hurrah or maybe early in the 12th the beating he absorbed was incredible. he was truly game to the bone. probably stupid game to the point wher he would have taker his death. lamotta claims that if the didnt stop it in the 13th ray would have collopased from throwing so many punches and he wouldve won. lol
