How many Calzaghe fans that would travel the globe to watch him fight, could actually name 10 fighters besides Calzaghe.

Look I think it's great that he has a strong following, more power to him, but just because you across the pound have a higher sense of nationalist pride and are willing to travel the world following sub-part hype-jobs(Hatton...) doesn't mean your more devoted to the sport.

 

very naaive post and it's indicative of british calzaghe fans (generalising) who want to know why their 'champ' has to play second fiddle all the time to major international promotions.

well here's the answer for you...

1. (the obvious one) the gross takings at a fight isn't what makes a vegas sellout viable - it's the casino takings and hotels.

2. calzaghe only packs out these arenas because the amchair fan believes in him through warren's deliberate campaign to promote british fighters without ever putting them on the line internationally. that's why ricky hatton decided to get some self-respect and find out how good he is.

3. british fans are only "desperately needed" to put bums on seats, and this has always been teh philosophy of frank warren because his moto is to milk his fighters. so that train of thought will neevr stretch into the bigger scheme of things.

i hate to sound cynical but you really need to know this.
