How many people believe that Winky actually turned down a fight with De La Hoya?

I'm not sure the whole story. I've heard some stories that Gary Shaw, thinking it wasn't legitimate, turned down the offer without notifying Winky!

Winky does have a reputation for overvaluing his worth, but still, he's gotta be crazy or stupid to turn down $6 mil and a fight with DLH on the grand stage unless there's something we don't know about.

You don't rip up a winning lottery ticket.

I believe it when I hear he turned down 6 million or 5 it was around that range. Winky was coming off a shutout win over Tito and wins over Mosley the guys who had beaten Oscar he probablly felt hold up this is all im getting ? I deserve 10-11 million and it was probablly a half assed offer from Oscar knowing how stubborn Winky has always been always turning down fights. Notice Oscar never even fought in September 05 when he offered Winky that.

That's pretty much how i see it. Winky pretty much had a lottery ticket in his hand if DLH really offered him a fight. If DLH did offer a fight, it was on ridiculous terms just so their people can say they technically offered a fight.

I mean Winky had nothing to lose and everything to gain by getting Ms. Greedy in the ring. He would've completely beaten DLH. He would've gotten a huge pay day. He would've gotten incredible fame and recognition. And he would've enhanced his legacy. I mean it would've literally been like winning the lotto.

The thing is when talking about a fight w/ DLH ... some guys think they're going to make just as much as Floyd. Despite getting their biggest payday ever ... they want more ... they expect more ... they demand more.

Now I could see Winky expecting to get 10m plus ... and considering he's not a PPV attraction and not that entertaining to watch from a casual fans stand point ... he can't expect to get much more than that if anything close to that.

Maybe Oscar was just reserving that date so he could promote a PPV on HBO during the Mexican Independence Day weekend in September and it's easier to say he'll fight rather than say he's gonna promote Barrera-Peden.

I'd have to see a quote from Winky himself but then again it really aint that farfetched. it's hard to find an elite boxer without a huge ego whether they show it in front of the cameras or not.

If he was offered six mil, Winky probably wanted sixteen mil so I think it's possible he did.

I doubt oscar offered to fight winky Because there would have been no excuses when he lost and when winky was hot he begged for oscar seeing there in the same weight class and after he banged tito and mosely who would fight him only middleweights and up benard wouldnt have fought him at 160 be cause then he wouldn't had the strength to bully him Im sure winky didnt turn down that kinda of money and still fight that wild ass australian guy that was on the contender
