How many people expected Canelo to hit so much harder than Cotto?

I didn't see it coming. Speed I thought they were equal but I thought power would be equal too. Could be contributed to Canelo's massive size gain?

^^Boxers improve with age and study. You can't expect a young boxer not to improve and evolve over time?

Hmm... Canelo was slightly faster than Cotto. Canelo' shots hurt Cotto. Cotto's shots did not hurt Canelo. I concur with Barcham, there was a massive size difference that could not be seen in the tale of the tape or weigh-in weights. That alone adds a lot to ones punching power. And Canelo had a lot of pop that night.

Cotto was weighing roughly 160 pounds back in his Jr.WW (140) days. He outweighed Corley by 17 pounds.

I highly doubt Canelo was over 170 and Cotto under 165.

I did. We knew from the Solis fight that Canelo could really crack.

What surprise me was Canelo chin. Cotto hit him with some big left hooks and Canelo didn't even blink! I thought that was the difference in this fight.

Canelo had 10 pound advantage in weight. Of course he was going to hit harder, he was the considerably bigger fighter.

When a super middleweight drains himself to a tad above middleweight to fight smaller men, it is expected that his punching power would be above average for the weight class.

"Speed" is relative. Alvarez didn't look that fast against Mayweather did he?

I thought if he was heavy(just like he was in the fight) he would have more power. His weight advantage basically made it so Cotto's punches would have no effect on him.

No i def agree. He took some shots from Cotto but going into the fight I dont think anyone thought that Cotto would have the stronger punches. Especially with the weight advantage Canelo would have.

    This.

I did not expect Cotto to go the distance.

That he did, does him credit.

Both men showed about the same level of boxing skill, Cotto slightly better.

    Canelo landed slightly more.

But the real difference was the weight of the punches. Canelo hit much harder and had much more effect than did Cotto.

Had both men been the same size and strength, Cotto might have edged it.

As it was, I had it a near shut-out.

They both hit hard, before Cotto got stopped by Pacman, Manny said Cotto was the hardest puncher he faced, while Marquez was the best he had faced. I think Canelo hits abit harder, but not by much. Resistance to a punch, that's a different story. I don't think Canelo was too eager to knock him out either, he respected Cotto's power. Too much respect.
