Jeffries had more pro fights than Corbett and Finnegan when he fought them. and nearly as many as Ruhlin when they first met.He also didn't win all those fights, he drew with both Choynski and Ruhlin[1st fight].
Were Corbett,Jackson, and Goddard at their peaks when he fought them?

The opposition was a lot better than that.

Making the fights under different conditions than what Jeffries fought them in also kinda of makes it a bit pointless.

You have to remember Jeffries was staying undefeated through injuries too. No chance someone like Max Baer would beat Tom Sharkey with an injured arm.

If you can find a champion who's opponents were all at their peaks when they fought them, I'll donate £10 to a charity of your choice.

I was replying to this from Janitor,

"the thing is that Jeffries was not at his best for most of these fights.

He was probably only at his peak for the last couple of them!"
In the light of his comment I think my observation was entirely justified!

Corbett was in the ring far more than Box Rec shows. I listed that he was 59-0-3 prior to facing Fitzsimmons with the opponents name and a dates. Yes some where "news wins ", but they were in the ring in a fight. No questions Corbett had far more experience when he fought Jeffries.

When it comes to the ring records of the less than famous fighters pre 1920, their records are very incomplete, and mostly comprised of the more famous people they fought. Finnegan first listed fight was 1896. We don't know if he fought before then, or how many fights he actually had.

For whatever reason, you love to troll on this guy. He didn't belong and was blow out with a known 4-2-4 record.

Jeffries best opponents in Corbett, Fitz, Sharkey, and Choynski all had more experience on him.

If you can find a new champion who was moved as quickly vs. the quality opposition Jeffries fought that would be rare. Jeffries cleaned out the Division. From 1899-1900 he beat Fitz, Sharkey and Corbett, who t the time were probably viewed as the top three opponents for him. He gave two of these men a re-match for the title, and also gave Ruhlin a shot to avenge a dubious draw.

Prior to Jeffries heavyweight champions wee very inactie, and post Jeffries many of them ducked the best opposition.
