I don't know if I worded it right but you know what I mean in regards to making the most money, taking a % of PPV sales and the live gate. For example Jones and Tito did over 500,000 but who was the draw becasue the fight didn't sell out and they have a huge fan base. Same with Mosley and Vargas
The Tito/Roy fight did'nt sell out MSG because the ticket prices were way too expensive and i would say 350k ppv buys if done more than once makes you a decent draw.
It depends on how much they invest into the promotion too. There have been many fights throughout the years that technically did decent numbers, but were ultimately a huge disappointment relative to what the expectations were.
Benny Blanco from the Bronx I was thinking the same thing. But I'm a fan, but all fights besides Baldo he was not the favorite he didn't get no love and even against Zab becaue I was at the fight and eveyone wanted Zab to win before the Low blow. Do u think if Floyd fought someone like Clottey how many sales would he do? De la Hoya can fight anyone and he will get over 500,000
What confuses me is when people say Hatton was the reason for 900,000 ppv buys in the fight against Floyd, but Hatton never fought on ppv here in the States so logically Floyd was the draw on top of that the fight was promoted well with the 24/7 series and with Floyd participating in the Dancing with The Stars show. To answer your question on how many ppv buys would a Floyd/Clottey fight would do i say around 400k that's a fight true boxing heads would like to see.
As far as selling out fights I will give Hatton the edge when it comes to fighting nobodys. But Floyd will sell more PPV than Hatton in my view. I don't think if Floyd fought Clottey he will sell it out but will get 400,000 like you said
I think it could sell out if he were to fight in NYC or even Miami, if you can think back when Felix Trinidad fought Mamadou Thiam who's obviously an unknown, that fight was held in Miami and Tito sold that place out, so I dont think there is no reason Floyd can't sell out a Clottey fight if it's held outside of Vegas.
At that time Tito was the hottest boxer in the world. Floyd still has his haters but you probably are right come to think of it. But he didn't sell out the Baldo fight, Mitchell, and Brusells in Miami. But that was before the crossover stage
Boxing television audiences in the U.S. used to be in the millions of viewers. Now its a success if a PPV card will do a mere 200,000. Interest has shifted to Europe (particularly Germany) and to MMA in the U.S. MSG and Las Vegas venues no longer sell out for boxing either. People are not interested in the high ticket prices for one fight with a couple of names and an undercard of flyweights. MMA on the other hand will sell out in mere minutes and offer a dozen action fights. Boxing still doesn't get it. Maybe the old guard promoters should retire and the TV networks should let some hot shots take over.
hatton sold 1.2 million ppv for the mayweather fight in the uk at 4.30 am. put a mayweather fight on at 4.30 am central time in america and what kind of numbers you think it would get. 50,000 approx ?
put it in perspective . virtually every amir khan fights gets around 6 million viewers in the uk and every khan fight has been televised. ppv wise , most uk ppv go out in the very early hours of the morning because of the different time zones between america and uk.
