It's got little to do with the economy IMO. It has more to do with the fact that names like Cotto and Margo just aren't big household names. So putting all that marketing behind a match that may or may not sell big would be a risky move by HBO so they're choosing to stay on the safe side of things and not push this fight as had as they probably should.
it will do around 300,000 which is PATHETIC that a fight of this class and of these two type fighters and elite fighters cant get more then that in one of the glamor divisions in boxing US boxing following = Sad
Cotto-Mosley did 340k... Cotto is an even bigger star and Margarito poses as a huge threat and it setsup to be a competitive fight. Everyone on this board seems to be keen on buying this PPV. All Cotto fans (which increase by the day) will buy this PPV. A lot of mexican fans will buy this PPV. If Mosley-Cotto did 340k, I see this one doing at least 450k with potential to realllly suprise people (500k+)
That's a double edged sword then. It's like when they don't advertise a movie because they don't expect it to draw money. How can it draw money if people don't know when it starts or what it's about? HBO spends TONS on boxing...more so than showtime or versus or anything like that...yet versus did a better job promoting Hatton-Lazcano than HBO does the majority of their big fights. If HBO (and Arum) wants to make money on this PPV, It has to advertise it plain and simple. It's not that hard to throw up 10000000 fliers all over the place and I doubt it would be too hard to throw Cotto/Margarito fights on dead airtime on one of their 17 HBO channels. Hell why not show Cotto/Judah or Margo/Cintron II at the end of the Wlad/Thompson fight. Lord knows it's gonna end early.
Examples of trolling: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/search.php?searchid=394800 Quite a variety there, no?
Who has more fans: Cotto or Margarito? Anyways, I hope HBO makes a great Countdown of Cotto-Margarito on July 19th.
:yep That I can agree to. To tell you the truth I'm not too sure of the real reason that HBO isn't putting more muscle behind this fight. Some say it may be a vendetta HBO has against Margo or one of his people. I don't really know about all that, but whatever the reason it's still a damn shame that they don't push a fight that's expecting to be as great as this one. A damn shame. :verysad
