You can take the scope of critisism, apply it to every fighter and find something if you try hard enough. Compare, Canelo's resume to Lomachenko or Golovkin's. Is it better, worse equal to? Are their fans just as over the top as Canelo's? I would say yes. Maybe worse. I haven't seen threads about Canelo beating every ATG middleweight with ease.
Lara - albeit it was highly controversial and many had him losing Trout ditto ^^^ Callum Smith albeit he obviously was coming off a Robbery of the Year type robbery of John Ryder and a short camp. Clen's fairy godfather Mauricio decided to allow them to contest the WBC title for that one too even though Smith got his ass paddled by Ryder in his previous fight and Clen had been banned for PEDs a few years earlier Rocky From Stocky - rehydration clause Jacobs - rehydration clause. Jacobs looked like the living dead on crack at the weigh in Kirkland - hadn't fought in a year and a half Liam Smith - Smith barely did any sparring after cutting his eye during a spar BJS 2.0 - looked terrible at 168, was hurt by a bum, was down on most people's scorecards going into the championship rounds against a gaucho from the Pampas that nobody even in the Pampas had heard of before until pulling out a hail Mary KO in round 11. And won a drab UD over a shot Martin Murray. To be fair, BJS 2.0 looking like crap at 168 is not Clenelo's fault though nor is Callum's brother suffering a cut in sparring either Not really that impressive at all when you think about it. Clenelo aka Mr Smokey Mirrors
Sure. That's been an an going issue for decades. And sure, fans say stupid things all the time. I've never claimed 3G to be an ATG or one to beat every MW in history. Some might....and when that happens, why pay them attention? I know some do just to 'use it' for another argument. But that's never been serious talk. It should be rather easy to see who should be taken serious, and who's post should be seen as nothing more than fanboyism. Does what MVC count towards ALL Floyd fans? No. His posts are useless. As should those who say ridiculous things consistently. I'd say Loma's resume is pretty darn close to Canelo's. He just doesn't have names that fans love to tout as ELITE, i.e. Trout and Lara for example. The way Trout and Lara are regarded, one would think they were having amazing careers. So...regardless of what fans say, regardless of trying to one-up them...do you think Canelo has defeated many elite prime fighters? Or simply some good ones?
First, understand, the term "elite" is given too freely in my opinion. So, that being said. No, Canelo has not beaten any elite fighters. Now, what/who do I consider elite? Prime RJJ, prime Mayweather, Prime Pac, Loma during his 4 consecutive no mas fights. That to me is elite. So, what fighter, fighting right now has beaten a fighter on the level of fighters I have mentioned?
I really hate all this labelling to be honest. And again to be honest, no one really is doing much. That's the world of boxing today. Frustrating.
you would have a fair point about belts if Canelo didn’t face or beat 3/4 of the reigning champions at 154,160,& 168 if anything he should get more props for beating all these guys like Saunders or Plant who are doing what you claim Canelo is doing cherry picking the easiest opportunities for a belt
Laura Trout Jacobs Smith Bjs Cotto wasn't prime but he was on a good run GGG (may be getting up in years, buy he was the unbeaten favourite
<ost guys take the shots they can get. Guys like Canelo, and other high profile cash cows, have the ability to pick and choose. That's the major difference.
Dude every fighter licks they fights only difference is Canelo picks good fights the only reason Canelo is the only one fighting multiple champions at his weight is because he’s the only one that’s actually trying to and everybody else is cool with sitting on a belt fighting bums begging for paydays. The reason Canelo is a star is because he fights the fights that’s the only way to become one
Come on guys. José Cotto Alfonso Gómez Euri Gonzalez Carlos Adán Jerez Luis Antonio Fitch Kermit Cintrón Gabriel Martinez Jeferson Goncalo Matthew Hatton Miguel Vázquez (rematch) Amir Khan Josesito López
