How many real life fights have you seen hit the ground?

The only time I seen a fight "hit the ground" was 2 girls in grade 10. I'm not an MMA hater, I actually enjoy it (obviously not as much as boxing). But honestly, MMA fans act like EVERY goddamn street fight hits the ground!

I'm not acting like I'm some hard mother****er, but I've been in my share of fights and witnessed a lot more. They usually stay STANDING UP. Perhaps nowadays you might have some Affliction wearing mother****ers automatically wrestle because of the MMA explosion but it's not like people have been wrestling on the street since day one.

Bet you will find more fights on youtube or whatever with stand up then you will see two guys start to wrestle and go for arm bars, RNC, etc.

Reminds me of one of my good friends who does JJ telling me "well if I get mad at some guy when I'm driving, I can get out of my car and choke him out" :-(

This is NOT a Boxing vs MMA thread so don't turn it into one. I'm just asking how often you guys see wrestling/JJ matches on the street.

All the time. Generally I stay away from environments where idiotic fights tend to break out but they hit the ground all the time. Usually if one guy punches another - he winds up on the ground. If he's not unconscious then wrestling usually ensues with most individuals that are unfamiliar with grappling going straight for a side headlock so they can punch the other one in the face. This is all a part of wrestling, grappling, and submissions.

Well if you count the ones that are broken up, I would say about 1/4, if you only count those that continue, closer to 3/4 (even if by knockdown)

Not sure I've ever seen one that didn't end up in a clinch.

Usually it goes big overhand right, if that hits (rare) the guy that got hit is either out or he runs straight at the other guy football style, if it misses the other guy throws his, if that misses it's usually a hockey fight type situation.

Not gonna see much technical anything in most bar fights; not like guys are out there doubling up on the jab and throwing a good left hook to the body and straight right hand.

Well yes, they have, in the same sense as they do now; they grab each other and fall to the ground because they are untrained. Why do you think so many shirts get ripped in street fights?

You are right, the clinch is a huge part of wrestling and is often used in street fights. That's a fair point. What I was trying to talk about though was two guys actually on the ground, one with top control looking to pass, submit, etc.

I'm not saying wrestling is never used because a lot of wrestling comes naturally (clinching, sprawling, etc) but jiu-jitsu and actual fighting ON the ground just don't happen on the street.

What I'm trying to prove is that MMA do not resemble street fights AT ALL like all MMA fans instantly say. I'm sure there's techniques you can use like boxing, wrestling, muay thai, hell even SOME JJ but you won't see two guys rolling on the ground like you would in MMA.

Would an MMA fighter whip some ass on the street? Sure. Any trained fighter will destroy the average nobody on the street but the whole "training MMA is training for the streets" is another UFC marketing scheme that kids really buy into.

Pretty much agree, most people just are not technically skilled fighters, so you don't see fights in the style of two technically skilled fighters.

Training MMA could be seen as the best option because it's going to teach you to at least be comfortable in the widest variety of situations.

dude ive been a bouncer for ten years and seen more fights than i could posibly remember. But i can tell you that other than the ones that get broken up first they invariably end with one guy on the ground covering up and the other guy on top of him flailing at his head/elbows/hands. ALWAYS

I'm with you man. All the street fights I've been to, both fighters are standing up and if one goes down he gets 10 seconds to get up

if do guys who wrestled get into a fight it goes to the ground...if they are scared of getting hit it often goes to the ground....also if they are drunk and off balance it often goes to the ground.

also sometimes it goes to the ground when the fight has already been won standing up.

yea but i hardly count allot of that....in many causes the guy on top has dropped the others with punches.....and then he is on top of him finishing him off....

in some cases yes but generally its due more to shirtpulling/stumbling/wrestling.
