I think the word Robbery in Marco sense is over used as that implies a 9-6 correct score card that went the other way where the loser landed more punches, or if you prefer a 7-5 correct score card where the loser landed more punches in the majority of the rounds. Robberies actually happen in individual rounds where fighter " A " clearly wins the round by out landing, forcing the action, using more effective aggressiveness etc...BUT LOSSES on a judges card to fighter " B " to make the fight go the other way. Judges can keep track of their own score and can conveniently give the close rounds to the fighter they want to win or ROB THEM of a round they won. The last one I saw is where all three judges gave Ward the nod over Kovalev in round 10. Kovalev won the round cleanly, by landing more and being more active. The impact, the fight swung Ward's way! But your right, most fans do not see the judges cards! But if you see the cards and closely watch the video, a revelation is possible.
I have to go through all my old tapes and dvd´s - Just one thing, I have to admit that Mads Larsen did not win against Ottke. (and I am danish) And by the way, I often watch Ottke kayo Mundine, I really love that ending.
None for me. Every fight he had was pretty much 7-5 either way. I think Mitchell deserved to beat him but it was no robbery. Also Reid shouldn't have been deducted but it's also difficult to say Reid won atleast 7 rounds.
He should have lost to Tate in thier first fight because he was cut by a punch and when the Doctor stopped it Tate should have got the TKO win instead of it going to the cards - it wasn't a robbery and Ottke was better than Tate but that first fight should be a L on his record. The referee did everything in his power to prevent the Reid fight being fair and gave Ottke every advantage while at the same time being constantly on Reid's case for nothing the whole fight. That should have been thrown out as an NC because it was a utter disgrace to sport in general let alone the sport of Boxing.
Therein lies the conundrum. I'm admittedly intrigued to get to the bottom of whether Ottke was a misunderstood diamond in the rough, or an over-protected goon wallowing in a cesspool of German home cooking. However, I really don't care enough to sit through one Ottke fight, never mind a dozen of them. If someone could take one for the team and let us know the outcome in a way that sounds like they know what they're talking about and expresses their views eloquently enough so I'd be happy claiming said opinion as my own, that would be just lovely.
