i think his only chance is to do what holyfield did to bowe in the second fight. i'm not comparing either haye or klitschko to bowe or holyfield but holy laid a great blue print for beating someone bigger and stronger than you using speed, rapid movement and your smaller size to your advantage. if he moves in behind a stiff double jab, throws well constructed (not sloppy!) combinations and moves right out immediately he can pick up points. remember, the idea is not to knock him out, just win one round at a time. once in a while, fight on the inside using short accurate counters; vitali isn't that fast and doesn't have a great inside game. to mix it up, jab your way in, flurry, stay close to vitali and counter him inside those long ass arms of his. move out again, rinse and repeat. i don't see this happening as haye doesn't have anywhere NEAR the discipline or ring iq to pull it off. but it's a shot for him...i think it'd be too much to ask him to go for a points win instead of a KO cause he's so ****ing pigheaded he's gonna try follishly to knock vit out :bbb
You mentioned the rabbit punches from the Peter fight, as though poor old WALDO had been wronged because he got rabbit punched, despite the fact that he kept turning his back on his opponent (good way to protect your glass chin I suppose ) Then someone suggests that the Haye knock-down might have been a rabbit punch and you said 'depends if Haye bent down or not' as if to suggest bending down means you deserve it, yet turning your back on your opponent is OK :huh The Haye knock-down was a slip, and Barrett threw a punch when Haye was already down. Whether it was a rabbit punch or not is irrelevent, Roy Jones got disqualified for doing similar. It wasn't a legitimate knock-down and Barrett got deducted a point for the foul. Just to clear up whether Haye was actually hurt or not he knocked the guy out about 20 seconds later....there's nothing to argue about here.
Peter threw punches that he knew would hit Wlad in the back of the head. If you look at the punch Barrett threw, it was a hook from distance that was high and hit or skimmed Haye from the left side over the top of the head. Not even close to being a rabbit punch like Peter threw. Sam would throw that punch while in tight knowing there was not enough distance for that punch to hit the face, but it would hit the back of the head. Dont make it sound like Peter was not known for throwing rabbit punches. You know as well as i do, thats what he did
You have to give Haye props for taking this fight. I would like Haye to win, but don't think he will. Everyone is a winner in this fight. Especially the fans.
Chef - Any idea where the fight is going to be? I heard in Germany, so I guess they ruled out the new stadium in Ukraine or whatever. Just curious what part of Germany it might be in.
I think Haye can go the distance, Look the man does have quick hands with Power, When Vitali faced Byrd he had trouble dealing with the speed of Byrd, not so much the movement of byrd as is usally the case with others who have fought Byrd but the speed. And Vitali quit even though he was well ahead he quit, I think Haye who has very fast hands with power to go along with it will have enough in his game plan to actually make Vitali work, and he will make Vitali think before he does anything, if Haye comes in with the right game plan which I think he will, he will be able to compete....
I doubt Haye will settle for a UD myself, i think he'll try to go for the stoppage, and end up getting caught. Byrd was a safety first fighter, and that's why he was successful...
I think many are writting Haye off , thinking he'll be KO'd in 1 or 2 rounds, but I just don't see that happening. I can actually see Haye outworking and wearing down Vitali in the first 4 and 5 rounds by keeping him busy and on the guard. Then I see Haye catching a tiring Vitali in the mid to late rounds with a Hayemaker, thus crowning us fans a interesting HW. But that's just my opinion.
Yes but it could also be said that WALDO turned his back on Peter in that fight and got hit on the back of the head due to that - not every time but he did do it. Also WALDO was holding on so often in that fight the guy was bound to get frustrated by it - it still doesn't excuse fouls though. My point is simple, you can't blame Haye for being hit on the back of the head whilst on the floor after a slip, whilst also whining about WALDO getting hit by rabbit punches...
