Look closely at Ward's three tune up fights and watch him as he tries out new faints, 1-2 combinations, turning south paw, testing his long absent right hand, etc.
Ward isn't a come forward fighter but he has been practising more the aggressor.

People who think Ward can't punch, just rewatch the Smith fight where Ward rearranged Smith's face and broke his nose. He the fight not been stopped Ward would have KO'ed Smith in the next round.

I expect it to go the distance and Kovalev to win 5 rounds max.

One and it will be enough for him to win. That is if Ward steps in.

Interesting that Kovalev fans say he is a master boxer yet the only chance they give Kovalev of winning is by KO.
Ward has never been KO'ed and generally doesn't even lose many rounds.

The fight will be in Las Vegas where the judges, ref, boxing commission is crooked...................the judges have already filled out their cards for Ward, they will not give Kovalev even one round................Kovalev will have to knock Ward out to get a draw.................Kovalev will beat Ward by knockout, but the referee will protect Ward as much as possible, probably disqualify Kovalev for hitting Ward..............Kovalev will win the fight, but Ward's judges will not allow it, the ref will not allow and the boxing commission will not allow it either, they will probably have to disqualify Kovalev for hitting Ward to the face......................yes, it's not legal to hit Ward.............
Ward has been practicing his headbutt for a long time now, afterall he beat Kessler will an illegal intentional headbutt, should have been disqualified, but Ward had his own personal referee, judges and boxing commission.......................Abraham, Kessler, Froch, Bika would get knocked out by Kovalev and Brand is not in the same class as Kovalev or Chilemba....................Ward could not even hurt the midget Brand.................

Kovalev will need to put his punches together on Ward in order to get the KO - one punch isn't going to do it. Ward has the best defense in the game and Kovalev failed to get the KO against Hopkins and the relative nobody Chilemba in his last fight. If Kovalev allows this fight to reach the final bell - Ward is gonna win by UD. Bank on it...

Yes, Kovalev has to make this a dogfight if he wants to have any hope of winning. Sergei loses a boxing match and loses BADLY. Ward is the superior boxer and if the fight turns into a jabbing contest, Ward takes Kovalev to SCHOOL.

Yes, in this instance, a punchers chance is a very low chance seeing as Kovalev isn't a one-punch KO type of puncher and Ward has what is arguably the best defense in the game. Plus, Sergei didn't exactly look like a killer in his last fight - which went the distance.

As far as Ward staying on the outside - I think Ward will be equally if not more effective fighting on the inside where he can smother Kovalev's punches and negate his power. Ward is the superior inside fighter where Kovalev has proven he's not proficient. Kovalev likes to keep his opponents at the end of his jab where he can setup the big right hand. This is the danger zone for Ward...

    :good

excellent post and I'll just be happy if it doesn't turn in to another ugly Ward affair. His headbutting is overstated a bit, but not his grabbing. With the right ref, this will be a great fight.
