He never stopped an elite fighter and he had ways to apply the power.

He had good power but he can't stop GGG.

Hilarious, the comments I'm reading. I like GGG and feel he's great for the sport, but he hasn't proved ANYTHING at this stage of his career. His level of competition isn't even close to what Roy fought at 160, and Roy didn't stay there for that long.

Sad to say it but Roy might make GGG look like a vagrant washing the windows of Roy's career.

If Roy fought Golovkin at 160 back in the 90's then Golovkin would be remembered today as another "janitor".

Every single person Golovkin has beaten would've been utterly dominated by Roy.

Name a couple people that Golovkin has stopped that have never been stopped then compare them to the careers of the trial horses that Roy has stopped. No contest at all.

Jones faced better guys than GG. Holding a conversation matching these two is just plain stupid. GG has never even been in a true fight yet. Totally untested.

GG isn't an elite fighter. He has yet to face an elite fighter. GG has never seen an offensive juggernaut like a prime Roy. Roy gets ko'd at age 35 and he never had a chin. That's **** riding clueless boxing fans for ya lol...

I think Jones does GGG like he did Toney or Hopkins.

Maybe he does box circles around GGG. It's quite possible.

But Roy Jones isn't stopping GGG. He had a million flush shots on Hopkins and Toney and still could not stop them.

I see you completely ignored my post. Hopkins went 12 with Kovalev at nearly 50.. And Toney has been punched in the face by some hard hitting Heavies... You have no point... Roy did stop a hall of famer with a body shot in his 4th weight class... Wake me up when GGG moves up to LHW and knocks fighters out with single shots... heck he wont even fight Ward at 168.

It doesn't matter if they weren't elite. Roy had genuine one punch knockout power, and it's generally the shots that you don't see that do the most damage. It's entirely possible that Roy could have stopped him.

Roy took out Tate, Hill and Griffin, with just single shots. Tate had gone 12 rounds with Jackson, and Hill had 57 fights, and Griffin had 59 fights, yet there was only Roy who knocked them both out for the count of 10.

Roy had serious power. He most likely could have had many more knockouts, but he had a lot of issues with his hands, and he was content to cruise to decision wins until an opportunity to close the show presented itself, or the ref stepped in. Apart from the Griffin rematch, he never really went out determined to get a knockout.

Just out of interest, how many one punch knockouts does GGG have?

Again, it could have been possible.

    A few things to consider:

Roy had a fractured hand against Hopkins, and it was a tactical fight.

    Hopkins has never been stopped.

The Toney fight was also very tactical and it was a boxing match as opposed to a fight.

Toney has also never been stopped.

We don't know how good GGG's chin is, and whether or not it's as good as Toney's etc, because it hasn't been tested yet.

We've evidence that Roy had genuine one punch knockout power, with his knockouts over Tate, Hill and Griffin.

As per my previous post, Hill had 57 fights, ending his career as a CW, and Griffin had 59 fights. That's a total of 116 fights between them. Yet Roy was the only guy who ever knocked them out for the count of ten. Think about that for a moment.

Just because Roy couldn't knock out Hopkins and Toney, it doesn't necessarily mean that he wouldn't have been able to have knocked out GGG.
