Not too sure, I was watching a stream - but they showed parts of the show after the Abraham fight for free (to try and entice more people to buy the PPV) as planned, so I am guessing that once the Abraham fight was finished and they went back to the 'free to view' screen, everything was made free anyway.

TommyV came on the RBR thread and said that he was watching the Froch fight for free on Ch480; others made posts after that backed up what he was saying. As Kos said, I think it was just for the Froch fight.

    $50m? Are you kidding me?

This is Showtime, not HBO. The fights are not PPV either, are they?

If HBO did this tournament and put it on PPV to squeeze out as much as they could, they wouldn't be able to get together a budget greater than $20m in my estimation, and that is assuming they wouldn't make any profit on it.

Remember, Marquez made just over $2m fighting Mayweather on PPV (HBO) and that came with half a million buys.

Taylor, who is the highest paid super six fighter is making around $1.3m for his first three fights. You do the maths.

The whole super six budget, including the semis and final, cannot be bigger than around 10 million dollars in my estimation. $50m is way, way out!

"Boxing correspondent Ray Yeomans on the new $50m Super Six tournament"

    http://www.hennessysports.com/news-archive-07-2009-567.htm

(To the right-hand side of the article)

Ok, maybe that is not the whole prize money (I didn't really look into it, just knew there was a $50m figure flying about), but you have to remember HBO PPV is just in America and they may get some extra money selling the feed to various countries, but not much more money. The Super Six is covering Germany (the most lucrative market in boxing right now) and Denmark with Abraham and Kessler - both are bringing big money into this tournament (Kessler on PPV in Denmark could rake in as much as $50m per fight by itself and there is a lot of advertising revenue to be made in Germany). And that is without thinking of other countries involved! There is a lot of money to be made in this tournament - imagine how much would be made if it were a Kessler vs Abraham final!

I've read that article too, but the $50m is a figure you simply cannot take seriously. Abraham is never PPV in Germany. He's free to air. This is how they do it in Germany. A Kessler v. Abraham final wouldn't sell that much in the U.S. on PPV. It would sell in Denmark.

I'd just like to point out that even if the total gross for the tournament was $50m, that doesn't mean the fighters themselves would share the $50m. They'd probably only share a quarter of that, and then they'd have to pay their trainers and all their expenses during training camp, and then the taxman would take a big chunk too.

No way is Froch making more than $1m for his first three fights, gross. He'll probably be left with around $500,000 in the bank at the end of those three fights. That is great money, but not a fortune.

The advertising in Germany is worth an absolute fortune.

I was up in my mates last friday playing poker when someone said about a fight being on soon. So I butt in going on about how the super 6 was going to be great and started talking about Froch soon as i stopped one of them said "Aye the Haye fight should be good like". There was No advertising at all for this.

Im not gonna try and defend the figurs because if they are true..that is horrific!!
However the fact that fat mick decided to do very little media coverage on sky,bbc etc sums up why this is so low.
France all people knew about it other than boxing enthusiasts..primetime wasnt promoted that much either.

    Hes **** at marketing.

I really wouldnt be surprised if that number is true. I was watching friday night boxing on sky sports last week and couldnt believe primetime never advertised during the show. Basically told u everything u needed to know about the primetime deal. Even the biggest fights need marketing, advertising and hype to generate PPV buys. This was a fight which nobody cared about on a channel nobody knew about. What Froch see's in Hennessy I have no idea.
