How many times did Wladimir Klitschko duck... Chisora?

People forget Chisora did well against Vitali

 

Chisora is a fringe contender. Wladdy is a top ten to fifteen ATG. Nobody ducked Chisora, and certainly not Wlad.

 

Probably because Klitschko won on scores of 118-110, 118-110, and 119-111.

 

I mean was Chisora ever top tier? I always thought of him as local UK talent and nothing more. He surprised me and gave Whyte and Parker decent scraps, but they aren't much either and he still lost those fights. Chisora's record indicates that he is no more than a world level gatekeeper. He has still had a respectable career, but he wasn't ever going to trouble Wlad.

 

Why do you feel the need to lie about this? Fury started getting up at 6.

 

It's pretty inexcusable for a Fury v. Chisora fight to be happening now.

But Usyk left the door open for it when he failed to convincingly-beat (let alone stop) Chisora when the two fought in 2020. Thus (like it or not) Fury can strengthen his purse split leverage when he beats Chisora. And thus we have this unfunny joke of a fight.

(I know folks are going to point out that Fury's and Usyk's promotion teams agreed to a 50/50 split for the proposed fight - but that fight has been deferred - and negotiations are not likely to simply pick up where they left off).

There may well be something to this.

I find it difficult to believe that Wlad was afraid of fighting Chisora. After all, he fought 24-0 Sam Peter coming off embarrassing and potentially career-destroying KO defeats to wide underdog fringe contenders Sanders and Brewster, and even in his previous fight he'd been dropped by Williamson. Vitali told him to retire, his team wanted him to avoid Peter. He hadn't been 12 rounds in almost 5 years. And Peter was seen as being a more dangerous puncher than Chisora ever was. Wlad was the underdog, his career was on the line and he got off the canvas 3x to with a 12 round decision.

So Wlad at peak performance and confidence 5-8 years later ducking Chisora would be bizarre.

However, Emmanuel Steward spoke about Chisora on various occasions and regarded him as a cut above most of Wlad's contenders:

"Sometimes those type fighters are problems for good boxers, not guys who try to box them or just try to move in and punch, but guys who just come out and fight in half crazy styles. Chisora is not that bad a fighter. He boxes left-handed, right-handed, has pretty good boxing skills, but tremendous mental stamina and strength and that’s what we are concerned about. It should be a very interesting fight. I will put it that way. We have a lot of anxiety in our camp for the fight, more than we’ve had in most of them especially when we hear guys are 8:1. If a person is determined, you have to always have a little respect for them, especially if they’re young fighters. A determined person is a dangerous person, and we have that in this fight even though Chisora does not have a big reputation.”

"I think the upcoming fight with Wladimir and Derek Chisora, even though Chisora’s not a super experienced or talented fighter, I understand that he’s a young aggressive guy and he’s going to come in with a desire and a challenge and a belief that he could win which is going to be a slight change of pace for Wladimir, because most of the guys have been veteran fighters and they all knew how to survive. They were more into defensive modes than they were into offense for the most part. For the most part, this will be a challenge in terms of just someone that’s coming in with a plan and a belief that can win, and I think will try to win."

"I don’t think that Derek will be able to do too much except the fact that he comes in with a mindset of a winner, which we have not had that in a long time. Wladimir said they just had a press conference I guess today in Germany, and he said he was very surprised with the confident attitude of Derek Chisora. He said he’s very confident and he said, ‘It’s really got me even pissed, and I’m going to go training tomorrow’. He’s really upset, so evidently whatever Derek said, and the guy really believes in himself, too. I don’t think he will beat Wladimir, but it does present a challenge, though.”

 

If Wlad hadn't really fought Chisora on purpose, it's probably because he doesn't want to hurt him.

 

Don't try and be rational with Brits. They had Hughie Fury pegged as the second coming of Ali.

The weirder part here is thinking Wlad should have given Chisora a pay day after he spat water in his face before the Vitali fight. He beat Delboy's Daddy Haye in a one sided borefest, nothing to prove in beating Chisora after Haye dispatched him.
