Yes come to think of it he did. It was the salam knockdown that was flash wasn't it! But even though mitchell hurt him didn't he bang hum out that round? If not it was definitely the next one, this just show's what a warrior calzaghe is and it gives my last post more credit.

I'm not questioning the legitimacy of the KD, and I scored the round 10-8 for Bernard as Joe was clearly on his arse.

But to me, a flash KD is when you're right back up (I don't think it's physically possible to get back up much quicker than 3 seconds) and unhurt.

And effective or not, he drove Bernard back.

I think we agree on what happened. We differ on the definition of 'flash'.

I thought Mitchell rocked him worse than Bernard in round 1 or 2 (can't recall exactly) of their fight.

people don't get it about joe, he past his prime, before mitchell he was never down, could take a great punch an did not even blink, or stop throwing punches, ,,,people talk about hopkins, an jones past there prime, so is joe, joe just so good, he looks this good,,,,five years ago, which was about the time joe went down, was to me the start of his slow decline,,, when he went down to mitchel, he dropped mitchel later in the round,,,but i can't see hopkins being able to run all night like he did against a joe five years ago,,,,there a reason why they didn't want joe, he had great reflexes, could hit hard, an unless you had a iron chin like brewster, he going to stop you, an joe loves to fight down to his oppent,,,as he did salem, an soon as he went down, he was all buisness out boxing him round after round...........to bad when joe wins on saturday night the only credit he going to get by the [EXPERTS is jones was not in his prime,,,,well neither is joe,,,an joe still won:hi:

For me a 'flash' is a glove-touch on the canvas or a momentary loss of balance where the fighter "down" literally bounces back up and would continue immediately if it were not for the referee insisting upon the count due to adherence to the rules, like falling to a knee or toppling into the ropes. If a guy falls onto his arse as a direct result of a punch to the head, and has to get up and prove to the ref he's steady, then that does not fit with the word "flash" at all to my mind. If Hopkins v Calzaghe was a "flash" KD, then 60+% of all KD's are "flash", as Joe fell on his arse and had to get back up and have a 6-count. All that really tops that is someone struggling to make 8. It wasn't a brutal or major KD, but it was a KD. It was not a "flash".

To be quite honest the Hopkins knockdown was a result of being off-balance and then being pushed and leaned into. Was very clever from Hopkins to be honest. Not a flash knockdown but also nothing to do with punch resistance.

I agree for the most part, I class a flash knockdown as something like when Judah knocked Mayweather down or Hopkins Tarver.

    Iron chinned Brewer?

You are right though, there was a time when none of the shots that eventually put Calzgahe down would have put him down.

The times Calzaghe has been put down, i put it down to Calzaghe just not be up for the fight, ie Mitchel and Saleem, and being out of his prime and more vulneralbe ie Hopkins.

A few years ago none of these boy's would have put Calzaghe on his arse.

Who cares how many times he has been down, why is everyone going on about that anyways??? It has nothing to do with his fight with Jones for two reasons...One he has never fought anyone that hits as hard as Jones nor has the handspeed. Even an old Jones is faster then anyone Joe has faced...I think that that handspeed will give joe problems.

Joe will win though UD 12

He did hurt him. He caught him with a heck of a right hook that sent Joe down around midway through the second round. And then BM caught Joe with another left hook that stung Calz again after the Welshman got off the canvas:

    [yt]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qxLSroe7joU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qxLSroe7joU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/yt]

Soon thereafter, Byron got a bit careless and ate his own left hook. That punch began BM's demise.

Just because they came out of nowhere doesn't make them flash KD's. Mitchell and Hopkins both hurt Calzaghe. Mitchell more then Hopkins.

Edit: Calzaghe was hurt BAD by Mitchell. I just threw the DVD on quick and I forgot how hurt Calzaghe actually was.
