Funny cos it didn't seem to be too much of an issue before the fight for the people calling a Hopkins win. What, did it escape your notice that he was 43 before Saturday? If Hopkins got too old then maybe he should have considered fighting him years ago when he had the chance. Anyway, so who's the next guy were claiming's gonna "expose" Joe Slappy Calfaghe? Dawson, Pavlik, Jones, Tarver?
Funny where are you getting your facts from because it was already an issue here prior to the fight..plus it was not an issue, it was a fact that he was 43. Anyway, nobody is exposing joe as he is already an establish great boxer. But imo he needs young guns like dawson or perhaps a fight with tarver to enhance his career
^ i'd go along with fighting tarver to enhance his career / cv... but the fight wont make enough money to see it happen...way things are i suppose...money means more than an ibf light heavy title... i see calzaghe beating tarver...but for some reason i wouldnt be as confident about his chances with roy jones...i know jones looks shot...but i have a feeling with that one of style of his that it would be, still, effective against calzaghe...i could be very wrong though.. and...has been mentioned already a lot...joes getting older by the year too...he's on the decline too..
The funny thing is that all kept saying WE CAN´T USE HOPKINS AGE as an excuse if he loses, because real B-Hop fans uses his age and experience as an advantage and strength. Seems like all that´s worth **** now.
well..it depends what way you look at it... for joe..if winning a world title means a lot...then tarver would be the obvious..less dangerous way to go..imo.. i would have no problem seeing joe fight tarver rather than pavlik...although i do respect others point of view to see the best fight the best...
Absolutely correct. We hardly heard about Borenard's age at all before the fight, now it's all we hear about. Yes, we all know Borenard is in fantastic shape for his age, but I'm afraid that whoever thought he had a chance of beating Calzaghe doesn't know their boxing. He was never going to knock him out, nor ever going to do enough work to outpoint him. Calzaghe is also in fantastic shape for 36 and remember he was fighting at 175 for the first time as well
Yes, Calzaghe said it, I also said it, anyone with an ounce of common sense said it but for most B-Hop fans before the fight, It wasn't gonna be a factor because "he had the body of a 30 year old, his ring generalship was too good, he was too cagey/crafty, JC had never fought anyone of his skill level before and he was gonna knock JC out regardless". As soon he get's beat and I mean immediately after the fight it was "Oh well, BH is 43 years old, what do you expect? Calzaghe is only trying to beat old men .. blah, blah, bull****, blah"
whenever a 43 year old fighter steps in the ring, thats a big deal, but when one does it in such great condition and fights such a fight, its even a bigger issue.
it was mentioned on the board numerous times, months before the fight, that hopkins age would play a factor. even a few joe fans said the fight was only a money fight at this point.
Revisionist history from Calzaghe nuthuggers... again! I won't even bother to pull up the threads, but it was brought up in pretty much EVERY single ****ING thread before the fight. ...and it was always countered with "just wait, after the fight they will say Bernard was old!"... Some of you guys need to get a damned life. ..or learn to read.
