I don't see Wlad beating Louis' record. I don't think he's really interested in beating it, and neither brother (other than holding the belts at the same time) has ever really seemed too interested in legacy and where they stand among the greats. If he goes out in two or three years time with a couple more good wins and several defences he'll rank highly in hindsight
They know they're good and, like all the good ones, (Ali, Louis, Marciano, Foreman), they are gentlemen. (Well, Holmes could be a bit of a jerk at times , but the exception proves the rule.) It's like Ali used to say, something like "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up." I don't think Ali tried to break any records. He just loved to fight. Same with Louis and all the Greats.
I would like to see him stay undefeated for 10 uears, he can reach that in a few and it would be amazing, also unify all titles once vitali retires. If by that time he is close to louis record he should make a final run for it eventhough he will be old, only way wlad is going to lose is by injury during fight or a cut, or a hail mary ko which is not likely.
I don't see him fighting for more than another 3 years- at that point he'll have fully unified, taken out some of the next generation of heavies (assuming they fight him), will be 39, and have a 9 year reign. If he likes round numbers he may stick around until 2016 to get the even 10 years. I figure he'll get another 5-6 defenses in that span.
I'd bet on 3-5 before I'd bet on 6-10. But I can see him dropping one to an inferior opponent by knockout and recapturing it. I know, everybody has now started to mock this way of thinking on account of the fact that he hasn't been down in six years but the way I see it he's simply beaten the odds I'd give him with his attributes and grows more and more likely to find "that guy" before retiring. I mean, hey, it doesn't matter how good you are, somebody will get you in big trouble somewhere. Larry Holmes is ten times better than Weaver and he was in serious, serious trouble against him. But Volo hasn't shown that kind ability to fight out of being at the brink of stoppage (No, Peter didn't have him there). Like Lewis, I can see him just getting caught lax by a puncher and it doesn't have to be one-punch or anything, just getting finished when you're hurt. Arreola could be his Weaver. Laugh though you may.
Wladimir is 36 years old, and as fast, strong, and smarter than ever. . . He has another good 3 years left in his true physical prime, and he maybe even gets better. . . He's got antoher 5 years (barring some kind of injury, or beat down) left to plenty physically primed enough to stay on top. . .
Ali was not even close to being a gentlemen; He is closer to a David Haye in his words than anything else. Some of the things he said to Foreman and Frazier were downright cringeworthy.
Bull****. All of Louis title defenses were when he was the undisputed man at the top, wlads defenses as top 3 or 4 in the world do not count. To be fair Wlads defenses count after he beat Chagaev otherwise we must count Joe Luis defenses when he was a top contender as well !
Some of youSICKIES never quitnutVargas fan,ust look at your name vargaswhat good fighter did he ever beat? for the guy who said the great heavies were gentlemen YOU MEAN Klits arentdont give up us therapist need patients like YOU
:rofl I love jerkoff posters like you. 1) What does me being a fan of an exciting fighter like Vargas have to do with anything? 2) You make it out like I am some Klit nutswinger, but if you read any of my posts, I'm really not. I actually think Vitali is vastly overrated. I like Wlad though, but even I don't think he's an ATG at the moment. 3) You are confusing posters. I never said great heavies were gentlemen. I remember that thread. I posted in that thread but did not make that statement. Lastly, **** off.
