How many years did Margarito's wraps take off Cotto's career?

It is impossible to say, but the Margarito wraps were a defining moment in his career. Not many fighters have taken a beating like that. Resto was the last known man to pull such an assault.

People really need to stop defending Margarito's cheating ass. He could have killed Cotto. Boxing is deadly enough.

 

Cotto was on his way to scoring some big money bouts around that time in 2008 too. So he definitely slowed down Cotto's success and the course of his career in general. Cotto could have been filthy rich long ago, set well enough to retire now with 1/2 the damage he took in his career. Margarito altered everything for Cotto.

Brining out solid facts of the situation of Margarito vs Cotto is not allowed here on ESB.

Margarito beat down Miguel Cotto under the circumstances that you just described, but stop that. Lets just roll with ESB's notion and ignore that facts of the matter that in Nevada, you have to use the material in a sealed bag given to each fighter.

Cotto came off worse but he damaged Margo up pretty bad too. I think people forget how much Cotto was landing especially early on, it wasn't a one sided beatdown, it was a war at least until the last couple of rounds.

 

Oh, and I'm a Cotto fan, by the way. Cotto-Judah was actually the first live stateside fight I watched in its entirety.
