He's been saying he was gonna retire since he was 30, he's 35 now! He's just saying that to promote his fights and I don't buy into this "Farewell" tour at all. Same goes for Mayweather, he ain't gonna retire. He needs to face Cotto, and a few other guys...
When Oscar sees an oppertunity that doesn't appear too dangerous he'll take it, well into his 40's. Unless he gets an unexpected beating.
DLH has been a great addition to boxing since his inception to the sport's elite people....though I must say I would'nt mind watching him getting **** kicked all over the ring.
The evidence suggests that Oscar may well fight again after 2008. With the right oppurtunity/fighter/money he is always willing to make a comeback. Problem is apart from doing a Mayweather II, I don't think there are any 'viable' options for him.
I think he will retire after 2008, because he is making **** loads of money from Golden Boys Promotions.
I think he will retire, maybe come back for one more fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., if Jr. ever proves to be worthy of that challenge.
He'll keep fighting. For two reasons: 1. His "3 fights and I'm retiring" at the end of FY08 won't happen. No way does he stay healthy for 3 fights this year. At least one will get postponed until 2009. 2. Golden Boy Promotions gets significant preference from HBO over other promoters because they want to keep Oscar happy so he keeps his own huge revenue fights on HBO. Once Oscar retires, there isn't the same incentive for HBO to continue to bend over backwards for GBP. There will be a great incentive for him to either continue to fight or at least hold out the possibility that he will still fight so that HBO still continues to fund GBP.
