Obviously this guy is superb, and talent wise is one of the best ever. But unlike other fighters he does not have a win against a true, prime ATG. Whitaker had Chavez, Jones had Toney, Leonard had Hearns, Duran and Hagler (kinda) He beats Cotto pretty easily I reckon. Cotto stays at a mid range, and PBF will pick him off all night. But even if this fight gets made, and he wins, his resume still aint good enough to rival guys in the top 15-20, where talent wise, he belongs. And there aint really any obvious candidates to get him there. So I think he should take on his biggest challenge yet, and move up to Middleweight. If DeLa Hoya can do it, or Cory Spinks, and give the champ a run for his money, than I think Mayweather could. He has a good shot at beating Pavlik or Taylor imho, and being the undisputed MW champ would truly propel him to greatness.
That's a tall, tall order, even for Mayweather. If he did that, he would have been the man in a greater range of weight classes than anyone.
Going up to Middleweight taking on the champion and winning would certainly but him in the running. Don't know why we're talking about it though, Mayweather would never consider doing that. To much risk involved.
You reckon? I would pick him to beat Taylor, mainly based on the Spinks fight. Pavlik, He could outbox, but would probly get caught sooner or later. MW champ would truly catapult him to greatness, and it may be a big risk, but you have to take them in boxing if you want to be great.
Floyd Mayweather is unquestionably a great fighter, but if I was him I'd be wanting to show you all by beating Cotto, Williams, and Margarito. But I 'spose Mayweather has nothing left to prove now he's beat Ricky Hatton, who's only other fight at that weight he lost.
there are no great fighters around thaat he can fight but thats not his fault..he only can beat the best today
It's all factual If I was as good as Mayweather claims to be and love the sport as Mayweather also claims, I'd want to silence my critics, who would all be telling me to clear out the division. Hatton lost to Collazo, he got a gift.
Alright then, look at it this way. SRL, while, admittedly, naturally bigger than Floyd, moved up from Welter to MW after years of inactivity to face Hagler. Key word here is Hagler. An absolute beast of a MW, who, lets be honest, is a class above Taylor or Pavlik. You reckon Floyd moving up to face a lesser MW, though still a very good, undisputed champ in Taylor/Pavlik, winner is that much greater a task? I think its easier than Leonard's task against Hagler tbh.
Exactly, which is why he should move up to MW. Beating Pavlik/Taylor ensures his top 10 all time greatness. Beating Cotto or Williams doesn't quite do that.
To be top 10 all time he'd have to clear out the division then go become Middleweight champion. He has to make up for his lack of HOF competition. Sugar Ray Leonard beat several HOF's and went up to middleweight and beat P4P king at the time, Hagler. Mayweather could go win the Heavyweight title and maybe that would see him draw level with Sugar.
