How much better would Mayweather-Cotto had been at WW (2008)?

Meanwhile, in the real world, he doesn't impress against a journeyman (Baldomir) and small guy (Marquez), loses to an average fighter (JLC), loses to a part-time boxer (DLH), nearly gets KTFOd against an aging boxer (Mosley) and sucked against boxer past his prime (Cotto). atsch

A 2008 version of this fight would have looked a lot different. A lot of factors, with both fighters, have changed a lot since then. Not saying the result would have been opposite, but it would have been far more closer on the scorecards.

 

That would have been Floyd defining fight but he chicken out. He didn't want none of Cotto because Cotto was from Puerto Rico LOL. What a coward he is. What if I lose .

 

The problem is that Cotto has never been good enough to beat A level talents. 2008 Floyd could get and stay on the back foot for long stretches. Cotto never finds him and loses a wide wide UD. Floyd fought Cotto's fight, and Cotto's weight, with 10 oz gloves, and he beat Cotto easily.

 

People are forgetting that Floyd was in his prime using the stick and move method in 2008. So we would likely not see nearly as much battling along the ropes, like in the fight we actually got. I may be in the minority, but I think a fight in '08 would've been more one-sided, as Floyd with 8 oz's would've lit up an overrated Cotto defense, and Floyd would've been too mobile for Cotto to really be effective.

There would be less quality shots as Floyd would pot-shot/hold/move, etc.

And nobody's stopping (ko/tko) an undefeated Cotto without bricks in their wraps, especially not Floyd

 

Hard to say. Back in 08 Floyd still used movement alot and was faster but also wasn't as strong and was still a smallest welter. Cotto was just all around better but still the same fighter.

Floyd wins no doubt but hard to say how and with how much difficulty. Quick guess Id say Cotto gives him more problems early on but Floyds movement would tire Cotto more then. Floyd adjusts and stops him late after giving him a nice beating from rounds 8-11. Tko. 11

lolwut? I don't especially like Floyd, but let's be honest, he dominated all of those fights (except maybe the JLC fight which was closer).

He dominated and was very impressive against Baldomir/JMM/DLH/Mosley and Cotto.

JLC 1/2 were more competitive fights. Floyd still won each fight by at least two rounds. If you disagree with Floyd beating JLC then I suggest you re-watch the fights with no audio (as HBO announcers are awful in just about every fight, Floyd or no Floyd). If you've watched the fight on mute and still think Floyd drew/lost, then you don't understand the boxing scoring system.

My hunch though is that you're a whiny one-fighter (Pac) fan. If that's case, :--( so sad.

 

The version that beat Mosley could of very well beaten Pacquiao and gotten a draw with Floyd. Like I've always said Cotto has always been underrated as a boxer and overated as a puncher tho he is very strong. Floyd is a better puncher today than 08. I disagree he'd of been more dangerous for Cotto back then it's the other way around.
