I Personally Feel That As Opposed To A More Common Sport

    Baseball
    Basketball
    Football

Boxing Knowledge Is Alot More Difficult To Know Without Some Form Of Proper Training Or Being Involved With Boxing On Some Level.
Alot Of People Make Statements (not that ive boxed or have any experience around a ring) That Dont Make Too Much Sense When You Go Back And Look At It.
Alot Of Ring Techniques Are Usually Left Out When People Talk About Fights.

    Controlling Distance
    Rythym
    Ring Movement
Being Able To See Effective Defense
    Corner Communication
    Mid Fight Changes In Strategy

These Are Things Ive Noticed Most People Dont Often Mention To Often. Is There An Abundant Amount Of Information That Us As Boxing Fans Will Never Realy Know Or Understand Due To Our Lack Of Experience In The Boxing World.

But there are world class trainers that never were professional fighters.

I pointed this out in another thread, but boxing really is the theatre of the unexpected. I mean, if you look at the cotto/marg fight, even the majority of boxers themselves favoured cotto to win. There are just so many variables to effectively predict what's going to happen.

Right And They Have Years And Years Of Experience

Im Not Talking About Predicting A Fight. But In Terms Of Calling Action & Noticing Nuances.... People Talk About Boxing But Mostly Only Real Obvious Stuff... Im asking Do You Think Its Hard For Us As Fans To Learn About The Finer Techniques In Boxing? Even on A higher level Such as maybe An announcer such as lampley or letterman.

Actually I think it was more boxers thought Tony would win, but I could be wrong I guess. I thought it was more of the analysts who saw a victory for Cotto (the Teddy curse  ).

I think I remember reading that Santos and DLH both favoured cotto to win and there were a few others, too.

Paul Williams Predicted the Fight pretty accurately..

he said it was a 50 50 fight but whoever is on rythym will win the fight..

tony seemed more comfortable all night imo... so paul made a fair call

With all due respect. How many frantic street fights have you had? Besides boxing, I've had my fair share of street fights. One has to have the reflexes to anticipate all and any diversivied attack. Whether it's via the boxing ring with rules, or no holds barred, no rules, street fighting. Actually, a strret fight is easier than boxing. Boxing contains many disciplines that are contrary & foreign to one's ultimate survival. In the very beginning of Roberto Duran's career.....do you know that he used to kick in the balls a a reflexive action after throwing a punch?

He was renowned as a GREAT street fighter in Panama in his youth prior to boxing! It took a lot of training and dedication to stifle his instinctive behaviour.

A great fighter bases much on instinct anyway. The name of the game is anticipation!

I've never boxed and have only been into boxing since 05 but I can say that my boxing knowledge is pretty damn good. I've only ever made 2 bets in my life and both were boxing and both were long odds (floyd knocking out hatton in rounds 9, 10 or 11 and toni knocking out cotto in rounds 10, 11, or 12) and I cleaned up. If anything boxing is easier to understand/predict than team sports because you are only dealing with two combatants and there are only a few basic punches.

I won £500 from a £37 bet. The boxing 'experts' had Cotto the clear favourite and the book makers had it 50/1 that Toni would knock Cotto out in rounds 10, 11, or 12. Based on my analysis of the two fighters and how they would fight, I rightly predicted Cotto would be able to outbox Toni for much of the fight but wouldnt be able to slow him down and was too small and didn't have the defence or chin to last the distance.

I felt that Toni would eventually catch him and hurt him like several other guys have done to Cotto, but as Toni throws in bunches and doesn't stop he would be able to finish him. So, in this case, like with floyd knocking out Hatton (33/1 for round 10), I was correct while the 'experts' were wrong). Based on that I obviously know more, but as my knowledge is not inclusive of all fighters, rather than saying my knowledge is of expert level, I'll say pretty damn good instead.

if you could measure and quantify boxing knowledge then I could sit a test and find out, but otherwise you'll have to take my word for it.

edit: my knowledge of the finer technique would no doubt improve with some real life experience, but I'm looking on starting up this summer so it will only improve
