We know that Toney would balloon up between fights. He had been having trouble cutting weight and wanted to fight at 175 but Jones stated he wasn't ready for that weight. Toney would venture one last time to 168, and particularly for this fight he cut from 214 to 167, which is an astonishing 47 lbs, and rehydrated to 186 (19 lbs) while hooked up to an IV overnight. The flip-side of the argument is that Toney ALWAYS had weight problems. He would cut weight and defeat his opponents convincingly and had amassed an undefeated record leading up to the Jones fight at 44-0-2, and . After losing to Jones, he would move up to LHW and lose his very next fight to Griffin, and lose to him yet again a year and a half later at the same weight. So, did Jones have to "drain him to beat him"? Or is the weight excuse only applicable when Toney finally lost?
As far as I know, Toney was never a big fan of Creedence. Maybe he just had Chronicle, but probably not Chronicle II or any of the full length LP's.
Toney always suffered with his weight but in this fight he was absolutely knackered. I'm not saying he could of beaten Roy, but the fight would of been more competitive if he wast severely drained. The win for Roy is in the history books but a lot of people remember Toney wasn't at his best.
