How much credit do you give Cotto for his win over Martinez?

    LOL!

    No excuses.

Even Martinez said that he was in great condition and that his legs were fine.

A part of me understands your pain and search for emotional support, you justify Martinez's loss by focusing on the knee when in reality he was able to operate and win fights with a pre operated knee. Handicapped or not what folks don't get is cotto was always the better boxer here and in boxing the boxer usually beats the gifted athlete. Plus I'm pretty sure cotto and his team aren't to worried about you legitimizing his win. Bumping this thread won't change what came to be and your brash pre fight predictions don't need excuses you said what you said and you were dead wrong it's all good it happens bro move on.

All of the knee injury excuses are comical...

"I am getting asked the same questions over and over again about my knee, and I know that the media is just doing their job," Martinez said at Wednesday's final news conference. "I can assure you, though, that I am 100 percent. I am old, but not by that much."

Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KOs), who has a physical therapist as part of his team, has steadfastly said his knee was fine and that he would be ready to fight at a high level.

"My knees are feeling great. I have been running in the mornings on the treadmill. It has been a great camp and I am feeling great and haven't felt this good in a long time," said Martinez.

Promoter Lou DiBella, who visited Martinez at his Miami training camp in recent weeks, said he was pleased with what he saw from Martinez -- although even if he wasn't it is unlikely he would say it.

"I believe that his knee is as good as it was before the Chavez fight and I believe that he is in great shape," DiBella said. "I saw him train in Florida and I saw some things I haven't been able to see in some of the other fights where his knees were bothering him.

"I saw great lateral movement. He could plant and throw with real authority and power. Particularly the fact that he could move in all directions without any kind of severe pain. The year off -- a year to rehabilitate, a year to rest -- and just work in terms of strengthening his body -- I think is going to be a huge advantage for Sergio Martinez."

After the fight Dibella said that the knee wasn't the problem, Martinez said he got hit in the first round and was dazed and never fully recovered. He said his knee feels fine. The only people complaining about the knee are the people trying to take credit away from Cotto's win. Most of you who are doing so said even a shot Martinez would KO Cotto. Not to mention the knee injury happened nearly TWO years ago, and there are football players who come back to full strength in a shorter period of time. Knee injury or not everyone picked Cotto to lose and he won, don't try to take back all the **** you were talking by making excuses about his "bum" knee when the guy himself said that his knee wasn't the problem...

BTW has anyone ever seen a boxer get tagged and dazed and his knees look steady??? Last I checked wobbly knees after getting repeatedly tagged (108 Left Hooks to the face) was extremely common in boxing.

They were trying to sell the fight. Of course they had to say the knee was fine. But anyone with eyes could see he was a one legged fighter. I am seriously not a Martinez fan nor Cotto hater. I just feel like people should see this for what it is. Cotto beat a one legged gimp.

He was considered damaged goods after Margo 1, and many people give Pac no credit for beating him, now he is the MW champion of the world.

Cotto had just as many struggles down at welter than he did up higher.

Went life and death with Clottly and Urkal and got a gift against Chop Chop.

Losing to Floyd means very little and he put in his best ever performance for me against Margo II right before that fight.
Trout was just a terrible style match-up for him.
I don't believe he was ever 'shot' as a fighter.

Great win for Cotto, probably the biggest of his career and I am happy for him, but Sergio had nothing with a capital N. I don't think he threw 1 good punch the whole fight so it is tough to give Miguel too much credit, but hey, he beat what was in front of him impressively and that is what boxing is all about. It also puts him in line for a lot of big money matches so good for him.

i give cotto credit for taking that fight knowing it was a risk if sergio was 100%
the win IMO is tainted cus of the fact that the knees were gone it was sad to watch. me being a fan of both fighters (boigger fan of cotto) i didnt want sergio to loose like that. i say he was 65% that night. 80% of sergio wouldve been a different fight. he couldnt move he couldnt throw proper shots. ppl forget cotto always fights hard and always brings his best he a top level fight and a top level fighter vs a handicap top level fighter this is what happens. again props to cotto his my boy but it is a tainted win.

It's a pro fight. You step in the ring, it's on.

I love Cotto and had him losing badly. It be unfair to give him zero props.

It's part of the sport. Deal with it.

Went pretty much the way I expected. Even with a healthy knee Cotto beats Sergio 8 times out of 10. I like Cotto and he had a great night but the fight went pretty much the way it should have given the skill set of both fighters.

    Who's the lineal champ then?

Hopkins to Taylor to Pavlik to Martinez to Cotto
