How much credit do you give Cotto for his win over Martinez?

    I agree.

Just because you see something for what it is, doesn't mean you dislike them. A lot of people tend to forget that some people are actually objective and see things the way they do, not how they want to.

Cotto did his job and fought really well. He dominated and beat Martinez up. I'm glad he won.

But that doesn't mean I actually buy into Sergio and his team saying before the fight "I am 100%, the knee is fine". What do you expect them to say?

And saying afterwards that the knee was okay, well I don't expect them to say "yeah the knee was messed up", which would kind of say that they cheated the paying fans by lying about his health.

It's obvious that Sergio and his team knew all along that his knee was messed up. And the bookies also had to know because the odds just didn't add up. I feel cheated to be honest. A lot of people, like myself, put down some real money on Sergio, assuming his knee would be at least healthy enough to fight.

Martinez' injuries, age and inability to perform taints Cotto's win somewhat, for sure.

But it isn't as bad as Calzaghe vs Jones.

And nowhere near as bad as Holmes vs Ali.

Can't take too much away from Cotto, though, he looked great and did a good job. What was he supposed to do?

All fighters have to get old.

Dude went to the hospital after the fight and checked out with nothing more than a broken nose. If had knee issues, the post fight physical would have found that.

Also, post fight is the perfect time for Sergio's team to blame the knees. Especially if it just came from his camp and not Sergio himself. He would save face for having no excuses, yet still give his fanatics reasons to not cry themselves to sleep at night.

"He said he was out on his feet after the first round," DiBella said in a phone interview Sunday. "He felt his body wasn't the same after that. He felt disconnected. He never regained his [POISE]after that."

Martinez was taken to Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan following the fight and missed the post-fight press conference. An MRI revealed that Martinez suffered a broken nose, but his right knee and left hand, which had been damaged in his last fight in April of 2013, were fine, Lewkowicz said. DiBella said an additional CT Scan revealed "no abnormalities." Martinez was discharged at 5 a.m. on Sunday and traveled back home to Spain later in the day, Lewkowicz said.

"He got caught with an early shot in the first minute of the fight and then he fought eight rounds and a half only by heart," Lewkowicz said on Sunday. "So how can [YOU]say that he's old? Everybody wants to be a coach. But the reality is that probably a young man wouldn't have gotten up after the first punch and it would be a KO after the first round."

its a shame sergio performed like that because i wanted to see what miguel really has in his game. in terms of credit i give him a 6/10. but like i told you back in the delvin fight. i don't see the same cotto. he looks lean, a bit faster, meaner and crisp. defense looks better too. looks very different than the slugish cotto that fought trout. next fight should test all these things. can't wait

Haters just keep wanting to believe their lies. There is no way Cotto could accomplish a feat like this when they thought he was nothing, and even a shot Sergio would brutalize him. The ignorance is laughable.

Don't you just love when the fans know more than the fighters, doctors, MRI's, and the trainers? lol. The only people who believe something was wrong with his knee are the people who thought he would kill Cotto, lol... Not to mention, I would be willing to bet had it not been previously published and discussed, all these fans stating it being obvious his "knees" were done, couldn't point out which knee he actually injured TWO YEARS AGO. lol

    :good

It really isn't hard to just give the man his credit. They way all the detractors are acting, you would think they witnessed Tonya Harding attacking Sergio with a crowbar on his ring walk! :rofl

He beat an old and faded, yet still lineal and P4P ranked champion.

It is a good win. A very good win, even.

This, I have heard ever since Margo, that Cotto was not the same.. After Pac whipped him, he barely got credit. Cotto recently lost to Trout, was an underdog in this fight. He deserves credit.

-75 % percent of the boxing media predicted Martinez would win in a one sided fight leading to a TKO/KO.

-The majority of all the boxing websites (ESB Included) were saying even a faded 39 year old Martinez with injuries coming off a year layoff STILL has enough left in him to dominate Cotto .

-BOTH fighters were past their primes .

-Miguel has taken more punishment in his whole career compared to Martinez .

Miguel Cotto deserves MASSIVE Credit for his win .

People in here would laughed and ridicule anyone in here if they would have predicted Miguel would Knockdown Martinez 3 times in the very first rnd , go on to outclass him in every round and force Martinez corner to stop the fight .
