How much Credit Does Pedro Diaz get for Rigondeaux's win?

good post. A lot of people were saying Rigondeaux was poorly managed by Gary Hyde and that he would probably never get a shot.
I think he should get some credit too for what its worth.

 

Rigondeaux has extended his contract with Hyde, 3 or 4 years I think it was, so the one who actually counts seems to think plenty of Hyde.

 

Hard to say. Ultimately Rigo's long-established style and skill is what gave him the win, and we didn't get much insight into what Pedro was planning for Rigo beyond basic mitt work.

 

Was Diaz part of the AM teams that Rigo was on??

 

I saw that Rigo had a right hook in this fight.

In earlier fights, his right hook left a lot to be desired.

Perhaps, Diaz worked on that punch.

 

I have a lot of respect for Mr. Diaz and have since I first leanred of him. He really takes his training seriously. They showed a lot of that on one of the Cotto shows, maybe Cotto-Margarito 24/7. At this point in Rigondeaux's career, he knows his ****. But, a good trainer is still a great idea. I think Pedro Diaz is THE trainer for Guillermo and I hope he keeps him. War Rigondeaux, War Diaz!

Yo, Robert Garcia, what the **** happened to your 2 round knockout prediction? Guillermo spanked your man and made him look silly. It is safe to say that both Robert Garcia and Nonito Donaire underestimated the great Guillermo Rigondeaux.

 

I think Pedro does deserve some credit, for developing the perfect game plan for Donaire. I'm not saying, that without Diaz, Rigo wouldn't of been able to win. I'm just saying that with Diaz, Rigondeaux increased his chances at winning.

 

I know he knew Rigo way back, since Cuban Boxing School. But I don't know if he was on Rigo's team when The gold medals were captured.

 

Diaz is a very good trainer

 

It's obvious to anyone that knows the "Garcia" style that Donaire does not utilize it. I agree with an earlier post I read in another thread that placing RG as Nonito's trainer was prob a name thing to help gain Donaire a Mexican American following.

I'm sure RG has helped Donaire a bit but IF Nonito is 100% w/Being with Garcia then they need a full camp & Donaire needs to either come down to Oxnard & train or Garcia needs to commit a block of time to Nonito.

IMO, coaches like Garcia & Roach are too in demand that they have spread themself to thin.

 

Not that much as Rigo has not lost a fight in over 10 years any way.

 

That would be something to look into...
Maybe one of the Cuban homies can enlighten us a bit more on this?

 

I believe he was on the same Olympic team during one of Rigo's gold medal runs.

 

2004, (almost) for sure. I think they said it on the Rigo-Donaire fight. They showed all the current fighters that won medals that year.
