How much credit should Mayweather get for his win over Mosley?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by CarlesX7, May 2, 2010.

  1. Top 5?

Pacquiao, Mayweather, Cotto, Clottey, Berto all beat him imo. I had him over Berto before seeing his performance last night, but he looks completely shot.

Some credit. It was not a prime Shane out there.

It's meh, Mosley showed wear and tear in the fight. It's not Mosley of like a few years back.

Some. I give him props for exhibiting some strangely offensive boxing(even though it didn't work out too well for him during R2), but I don't think Shane brought his A-game at all. Dude looked gassed early as hell, it was a poor performance on his part in the later rounds. Mayweather did show off his usual technique and skill bag though, that's always nice to see.

He just beat a guy ranked #3 P4P, #1 Welterweight who came off a win against arguably "The most ducked fighter at Welterweight" in Margarito.

Anyone trying to discredit the performance is showing themselves up as just another irrational idiot trying to rag on anything a fighter does.

They said he hadn't faced a tested, big welterweight? He's done that now, what next?

You're also not sure if Mayweather is one of the best fighters in the world today.

Fortunately, noone cares what you think.

  9. Manny Pacquiao is the #1 ranked Welterweight bro.

There are a few things i consider when giving credit...

1 - who else within the weight ranges could have done what -fighter in question- did?
2 - who was favored and by how much
3 - what better fights were available for -fighter in question-

are the main three, along with other things.

    So for me

1 - Nobody 147 down is going to almost shut out mosley like that. Not even Pac (though i would favor him to beat Mosley) so i give Mayweather lots of credit there.
2 - In reality, most people who analysed this fight right knew mayweather was going to win this thing, mosley had a punchers chance and thats about it.
3 - Mosley, from 147 down, was the 2nd or 3rd best fight Mayweather could have possibly taken, with only Pac being better, and others would also argue Paul Williams.

Obviously those arent the only things i consider, its also something you simply have to gauge in an abstract way for ones self, but these are some of the black and white things i personally look at when evaluating how much credit i give fighters for certain wins.

now... those who know me decently on here know im not mayweather fan, i was highly critical of the jmm fight, and performence, but not of this fight, or performence.

Mayweather gets all the credit in the world from me in this one.

I voted "some of the credit" because Moseley is getting old. But I was impressed with Maywether's V.

Mosley has beaten every pressure fighter he has faced. Mosley Pac would be a war.

    Some is the obvious answer.

He beat Mosley who is dangerous for anyone.

However its a 38yo Mosley who was gassed after a few rounds, not a prime physical peak Mosley.

Full credit. Mosley was a game opponent and the way Mayweather came back from almost being knocked down to having Nazim Richardson consider throwing in the towel.

And it wasnt that Mayweather was moving a lot too. He stayed in the pocket and pressed forward countering Shane badly. He seemed almost embarassed after getting rocked and wanted to make a point.

Shane rocking him like that was probably a bad idea cus like Nazim pointed out Floyd started spitting fireballs.

Mosley was the top man at 147lbs. Mayweather clearly beat him and I rate that fight as his most valuable up to now in his career. For me, that win is more meaningful than his Corrales, Castillo, Judah or Hatton wins. I think Floyd deserves his spot on top of the P4P list but I'd rather have it officially settled in the ring with Pacquiao of course.
