How much credit should Pac get for beating Clottey?

    maidana is a matter of opinion.

    i rate cotto higher. he did come to win and he did get smashed, but he gave pacquiao his biggest test at WW until he got ktfo.

    well thats just it, if he wants the winner of mosley v mayweather, then why does he wanna keep his LWW title?...

    Manny Pacquiao has requested that he remain The Ring junior welterweight champion because he intends to defend the title following his March 13th bout with Joshua Clottey, his second consecutive fight at welterweight. The Ring has honored Pacquiao's request, but has informed him that if he does not defend the 140 pound title in his next fight, The Ring will consider in tantamount to relinquishing the belt and vacate the title.

    this exert of pacquiao requesting to keep the LWW ring title means nothing. Imagine I have a pizza, and I've eaten 6 out of the 8 slices and I'm full so I can't eat any more. Some guy comes up to me and says "can I have your last 2 slices?" I will say no because I'm thinking I might wake up tomorrow morning and fancy sticking those slices in the microwave and having them for breakfast. Although in an ideal world it would be better if my bird made me a cooked breakfast, but I'm not sure she's going to do that. However, for the purposes of answering the guy who has asked for the 2 slices, I would be more definitive in my answer - "Sorry mate, I'll be eating that tomorrow".
    It's called self preservation and keeping your options open.

    He should get a lot of credit for the manner of victory more than anything. Yes Clottey was ultra-defensive, but only because Pacquiao was far too good for him. You can't hold Pacquiao being good against him.

    Bottom line is nobody has completely dominated Clottey like that. He said it himself, its the first time he feel he was properly beat. That says a lot, and thats why Pac should get a fair amount of credit.

    clottey knew their training and secret plans.... is that the excuse for a boring ass fight and why he couldnt' put away a stationary guarded punching bag that won't throw a punch... because he knew their secrets?

    One thing about the April issue of the Ring is that it's probably two or three months out of date.

    And of Maidana, I dint know how competitive he'd be in the half a round he would last for, but certainly not as much as a 12-round session with a guy who had never been dominated ad probably weighed in as a small super middle come fight night.

    I'm not sure about this ...Maidana is a bit of a plodder and with Pacs genuine speed the Argie would probably think he was surrounded. I can't honestly see him getting out of round one, he is that basic.

    but we all knew this would happen.... ill bet even clottey knew this would happen. the fight turned out exactly as we thought it would but i thought clottey would have at least thrown some more punches, especially when he had to knock him out in the final rounds.

    So with your logic, do you think Tyson's win over McNeeley is better than his win over Spinks because McNeeley threw punches and Spinks didn't?

    tyson genuinely had spinks scared. you cant make this argument for pacquiao against clottey because clottey didnt fight from the opening bell. if clottey had come out and fought but went back into his shell then i would say clottey was scared of him, but right from the start you could tell he was there to survive.... pacquiao knew, the fans knew, and clottey knew that he was never gonna win that fight, thats why pacquiao gets average credit from me.
