I dunno, it's really tough to measure. I mean, is this relatively speaking to how much damage Bob Arum has done, or just how much damage in general? Arum's no more scrupulous than King, it's just that King is better at his job. To put things in context, one has to take into consideration the fact that boxing has always been associated with unsavory characters from the very beginning especially at its height in popularity. Jake Lamotta threw his fight with Billy Fox. Many claim that Sonny Liston took a dive. These were things that were orchestrated by underworld figures. Nothing can be more damaging to the integrity of the sport than staged fights. Panama Lewis might have played a role in Pryor's first victory over Arguello (amongst other shameful claims to fame). Lord knows some of these judges have been tampered with. There are too many hands in the pot to to blame the shitty taste of tonight's dinner on solely Don King himself, although he might have been handling the seasoning. Our sport needs Jesus. :angel

I'm 100% certain that De La hoya & Mayweather will tell you differently.

No damage compared to Roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya.

As well as the plethora of old stars past their best days rehashing their names for a quick buck. ****ing retire already!

Actually, without King, Tyson would've had a good chance to become the first billionaire athlete in history...

By ripping off guys like Ali, Holmes etc (stars of the past) he has discouraged young athletes from seriously taking up the sport. . . Football players are treated much better in general than boxers. Of course it aint just King, he's just the most visible.

You seriously think that young athletes don't go into boxing because Don King screwed some guys over in the 1970's?

I think young guys go into sports other than boxing because baseball, basketball, football, etc., offer a lot more opportunities for making money and getting an education. And all of those sports are easier, relatively speaking, than boxing. IMO.

its a mix of all those reasons. . . If I had a 12 year old son who liked baseball, football, boxing and golf. . . I would encourage him to look at all the other three before boxing . . .yes, even golf.

Im not saying its all on DK, but he sure as hell has been a good part of the problem.

Considering the amount of fighters (before King and those not affiliated with him) who died penniless, it's hard to hold King out for special scorn.
