Pretty much a one off event. Vitali was not that easy to cut.

Right. First time he was cut in the pros or amateurs. The title of this thread is misleading, it should read how much did Lewis have left.

What would be the odds on that happening again in a rematch with a better prepared Lewis?

Very low of course. He fought many many times and was not cut. Odds are it would not happen twice.

I've thought for the longest time that round 7 would have been pretty dull actually.
Lewis was exhausted and Vtiali was badly cut.
I think Lewis would have taken the round off because he was so tired and needed a second wind, and I think Vitali would have been happy to protect the cut and avoid damage. I honestly don't think much would have happened in the 7th.
Hostilies would have probably resumed in earnest in round 8, or at least I think so.
But that cut was never going to get better...

Let's keep it real, Vitali didn't really eat too many big punches like that aside from Lewis.
Corey Sanders roughed him up a bit but Vitali was able to take it a bit better. You could tell he didnt like it though

He was easy to hit though. Thats why he looked like leatherface. Imagine how badly Vitali would fare against a younger , faster and more explosive Lennox Lewis.

Vitali would beat even a younger Lewis more times than not. It would be a great fight though. Lewis got very lucky that the side of his glove started the cut, and Lewis concentrated on it to open it further. No lucky cut to work on - and Lewis loses.

Prime for Prime would be a 60/40 fight but I would still make VK the favorite.

It was an exciting and unexpected fight. IMO they should of rematched as soon as both were cleared to, then Lewis should of sailed off into the sunset if he won, or fought a rubber match and called if he lost.

He had plenty left, but the ref had a job to do.

That cut could have lead to permanent, even career altering, damage.

I don't doubt Vitali COULD have won. But that's not the ref's guess to make. Vitali wasn't making adjustments to stop that jab from landing. And faded or not, Lewis kept throwing it.

The fact that Lewis hightailed it from the sport, though, tells you exactly whom LEWIS considers the better man.

You think the scar tissue for 60 stitches would hold up?

The fact that Vitali at his best could not beat a 37 years old career heaviest Lewis tells me who was the better man ! Prime for prime Lewis beats him up.

Did the side of his glove start the other 3 cuts? My that was lucky!
Straight right hand started the worst cut.
    Side of his glove! LOL
