What's the big deal? I read the threads that interest me and ignore the ones that don't. Why can't you do the same?

Fergy keep on posting. Good on Magoo for sensible answer . I joined this forum because i was
looking at the posts and they intrigue me and i thought i would like to be part of this . Then
later i realize that some of the You Tube boxing videos i have watched are made by members
on this forum and moderators which i think as great.
If you don't like somebody post just ignore it because please remember there will be somebody
else who will like that post. Members might not answer but doesn't mean they don't like to read
    the answers.

Thanks jup. That's how I see it to. Some subjects interest some people more than others. It's simple enough to pass one by if not interested. I get the feeling that blackcloud likes to dictate what's put down on the forum. Any way thanks again for positive response and I've no intention of letting a kid like him put me off.

Ruined a lot of careers, and left a lot of fighters worse off for knowing him (there's a story about Leon Spinks having to take a bus home after meeting with King; the former HW champion forced to wait out on the street for a ride because King was done using him is just appalling). Dozens of lawsuits for taking money out of purses without the fighter's knowledge that were often settled. He was/still is an a$$hole of the first degree, and there's a special place in Hell waiting for him. Tim Witherspoon, Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson, to name a few, would be wealthier; Witherspoon might have seen a longer career if he wasn't handcuffed by King's antics. Couldn't otherwise tell you how much different the 80s would have been; it's almost a chaos-theory thing, no telling what his not being around would have made, but I'd say this: despite the big fights he made, he also cemented the idea of boxing and corruption being inseparable. The sport overall might be less wealthy, but more healthy if he hadn't been around.

yea,. I read he screwed a lot of guys. But I think a lot of guys got good fights because of him. Leon having to take a bus? That might be from his own stupidity for not saving his money. These guys didn't have to sign with him. But I guess there is truth that he screwed over some of these guys. a shame really.

If they didn't sign with him they went nowhere. He owned all the top flight contenders and champions. Sugar Ray Leonard was one of the few guys back then who became super star and a multimillionaire without Don King

He was a very shrewd business man tbh and at the end of the day fighters to him were business. If a guy was doing well, winning fight s and looking good then king wanted a piece. He got quiet a few guys there title shots should imagine and he played a big part in there careers. But the downside is that when they lose and popularity waned he would have cut them loose. Which is business of course but left a few bitter guys out there. Apart from Bob arum there was no one like him with that clout for many years.

He definitely caused a heck of a lot of **** in the heavy division in the 80 s. He had a lot of em by the short and curlys and no fighter can fight to there best potential with the kind of stuff that King would have pulling. If it's true about witherspoon more or less throwing the smith fight to escape kings clutches , well it kinda tells u everything about the man. Good post mate by the way.
