How much do Daniel Óscar "Swift" García's career asterisks affect his legacy?

If he had rematched Matthysse and beaten him clearly, with no stipulations, and no dirty stuff, no assistance from the ref and judges...then I'd begrudgingly give him his props as an elite 140lber of that era. The pair of Morales bullyings and the rest of the old/shot/bummy cherrypicking would still leave a bad taste, but...he would at least have an undeniable rock-solid achievement. I'm not sure knocking out the very chubby Khan is that, as things stand.

Sparking Khan was certainly an endearing achievement.

    The Matthysee fiasco still smarts.

I was a big fan of Lucas, and I'll always remember having the sinking feeling that the Argentinian had left his career in the ring that night and he'd never be quite the same.

Sparking out A Mere Con is always a fun time but...it wasn't like that alone was enough for me to become a Breidis Prescott fan or anything. :sisi1

I don’t ever recall anyone rating Danny Garcia highly in his prime. People hated him and never gave him any props simply because they were Morales, Khan or Lucas fanboys.

That being said, he’s not a first ballot HOF but he was the best 140 pounder in his era, nothing more he could have accomplished, he lacked speed, power and had non existent head and foot movement at 147. He made millions of dollars and was the unified/lineal of his era, beating the number 1 and 2 in his division while being the underdog.

Puerto Ricans (and Philly/Nuyoricans) got behind him, and for some reason it was very fashionable among large parts of Mayweather's fanbase to also stump for Danny. Not sure why; their in-ring styles and personalities are nothing alike. It always felt disingenuous and agenda-driven when MVC and the like overhyped García but can't put my finger on what the angle was.

A rival forum ran a multiple-choice poll to see which bouts fans thought Danny got gifts in:

Surprisingly only Herrera got a majority of votes (52.08%). Lamont Peterson was in second place with 29.17% thinking he was hard done by. Everybody else was single digits.

It was funny seeing him KO Khan and make Lucas M turtle up and knock him between the ropes. The LM Stans were livid. Good times :afro:

There are fighters who are legacy fighters, and Danny isn't one of them. He was a world class athlete and he leaves his family that legacy but it's not like he's a historical great of boxing where you talk about legacy, to me. There's not that much to talk about. I hope he isn't going to be an IBHOF guy. He didn't have Ross Greenburg defense or anything.

Danny said something along exactly those lines himself, IIRC - it was either in response to everyone heckling him about Salka, or the outcry over Danny denying Matthysse a rematch. Maybe he said it twice. People repeat things sometimes.

Can you actually change the thread title to say legosee instead of legacy?

4 asterisks in total, Danny should have lost to Lucas Matthysse, Lamont Peterson and Mauricio Herrera, and his match against Robert Guerrero should have been a draw.

Did you ever watch the Theophane fight? Flash Ash has an ugly style but he might have been jobbed here. I've watched it a few times over the years and gone back & forth on it.
