How much do Fights cost to show on Tv???

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by starmatthew1234, Nov 11, 2010.

  1. Just wondered if anyone knew how much fights cost to air. I know that lower level fights will be cheaper but how much would a tv company have to stump up to show:

    Pacman v Marg
    Marquez v Katsidis

I wonder how much Premier Sports paid for Martinez v Williams???

I'm thinking of starting a TV channel off for boxing thats all. Got a meeting with the bank planned.

Might be best to do some genuine research rather than ask on a forum if you're planning to take this as a plan to a bank.

I'm sure Rob will be able to pluck a random figure out of his head though

no random figures. Setanta paid 140k a year for there Top Rank deal. FACT. They paid 25k for Marquez vs Diaz FACT.

I love your idea mate but your wasting your time no bank manager will touch that.

  4. 140k a year is alot to you or me but to a company like Sky is nothing!!!! Why won't Sky sign a similar deal with top rank???

Doesn't just cost 140k a year. Add the cost of sending Smith, Watt and a production team to US once a month, having a team of pundits and production team covering the fights at 4am. Advertising. The cost will treble.

They would need to gain 2500 new customers to make there money back. Sky are not in the business is losing money.

Nobody can complain about Skys boxing coverage. A 1 hour preview show and 2 hours of live primetime boxing a week, and 1 US fight a month.

You will need to spend £100k before you even buy a fight mate. Think you need to put a bit more work in, cos your just gonna waste your time.

They could just use the international broadcast, they don't need to send anybody over there. And they could show it on tape delay on sunday with just the fights.

People want it live and Sky are not a makeshift tv company. everything they put on there channel is high quality so they have there own announce team and

Boxing belongs on PPV. Everyone will disagree with me except for....the TV Execs. It costs just as much as other sports, you only get a few hours worth of live action, its on at 4am.

Premier Sports and Primetime are trying to offer fights to boxing fans but everyone on here complains and just downloads ilegal streams. you only have yourselves to blame.

Golf, Football, Tennis, Rugby they are all more TV freidnly sports. They generate more advertsing revenue and can fill hours worth of skys schedule.

I am a boxing fan. I would be happy with delayed coverage and US commentary.

I dont get why they dont use them.

What's the point of delayed coverage?

I can get that myself for free. I'm buying Sky for Live coverage.

The point is that is that if I knew I was going to get the full show shown the next day then I would rather be in bed at 4am then waiting up to watch the fight and feeling ****ed the next day.

And my point was that I can do exactly the same without Sky.

Me too. I'm typing this on a desktop permanently plugged into my TV. I can watch any fight I choose, usually in HD, the day after it's shown for free. Give me a channel that does that and I'll gladly pay for it.
