I get your point, but he's suggesting a second weigh in, just before they walk to the ring.

That's completely different from how Tyson pulled out due to the sad passing of his uncle.

We're talking here, about fans sat down for the main event, literally just a few minutes before the announcements and the ring walks.

If the fight was called off, literally 5 mins before the fighters were due in the ring, and the undercard bouts had already finished, the fans would go f*cking nuts.

    Think about it.

    No way Floyd is 150

If canelo was 170+ then that proves Floyd was 165+ on fight night

You don't do that minutes before the scheduled bout. You do it a couple of hours before. Besides I've been at events where major changes happened. I was in a theater once and the reel broke half way through the film. It happens. Everybody left and got their money back.

A century ago fights used to get stopped all the time by the cops who would arrest both fighters. Jack Johnson and Joe Choynski spent a month sparring in a cell.

Main events get stopped just as they are getting going all the time. Bernard Hopkins got knocked through the ropes by referee Mills Lane one time and couldn't continue. Another time, Zab Judah was trying to make a come back after a year's suspension and there was a clash of heads in the first round. A massive cut called a halt to the fight and like the Hopkins bout it was ruled a no contest.

I'm seeing a lot of canceled fight cards on google with reasons ranging from motorcycle injuries to poor ticket sales.

I'm also seeing last minute substitutions of opponents. Guys like Willie Richie got their start as substitutes, and he went in against Freddie Welsh when Ad Wolgast got appendicitis. Marlon Starling was supposed to fight Ernie Resto but when Resto broke his wrist they substituted Miguel Angel Hernandez. If you ever saw that biopic of Mickey Ward's life he had to fight substitutes at the last minute. He was going to fight Saoul Mamby and instead fought Mike Mungin. Remember how when Chisora pulled out of the Fury match Ustinov stepped in?

Fighters should not be able to fight for or defend a title if they rehydrate into a higher weight class on fight night, imo.
    For example:
2 guys fighting for a MW title would have to weigh in at/under the 160lb limit on Friday and if the champ weighs 168lbs or more on fight night, he can still fight but would not be able to defend his MW title.
A challenger weighing 168lbs or more would be able to fight but not be able to win the MW belt.

We would find out who can really fight and who needs a weight advantage on fight night.

One of the craziest things about this list is that getting into the ring on fight night marcos maidana only weighs 2 lbs lighter than what andy lee fights at.

    I don't disagree.

But again, he suggested a second weigh in, just prior to the fighters walking out.

A fight being cancelled two hours prior, isn't the same as it being cancelled just prior to the ring walks.

    Nobody would stand for that.

I'm thinking amateur style is best. Make weight 2hr or so before the fight and reweigh up to your ring entrance if necessary. No time to rehydrate so anyone smart will just go at their natural weight.

If they miss by a couple lb fine them.

A guy misses weight big time then cancel the fight, fine and suspend. The people would be ****ed but more than likely it wouldn't happen.
