How much does a small hall show cost to promote?

I'm sure there's a few quid in it.

When you're starting off you'd have to do a deal with the owner of the place, so much per ticket goes to them etc rather than a flat fee, it'll give them the incentive to market the thing as best they can.

A local Thai boxing gym stages it's own promotions, granted I'm pretty sure the man behind it doesn't make fortunes and the fighters don't get a lot of money, it's more of a hobby to them tbh.

 

:shock: no way does a small hall show cost as much as the figures quoted on here.

My uncle promotes muay thai shows in small halls and doesnt have to pay for the hall cause the beer sales the hall makes on one fight night is what they would earn in 3 months so to get promotors to promte there they do it for free.

Muay thai novices are not even paid for there first few fights just earn there money from ticket commision. Sure it be the same for Boxing novices as well on small hall shows.

Overall i know my uncle lays out around £2500 max for ring hire, paramedics, doctor, dj, 2 security guys, runners, trophies(not including phone bill) for a night show with 12 fights and around 300 spectators paying £15 a ticket. He pulls in from £1000 to £3000 profit but for the headaches from pullouts, phonebills and time it aint really worth it.

 

No in Ireland. I am hoping to have my first show next year.

Colne in a fantastic spot though, I am always raving about it - just a pity its in the middle of nowhere - pisses all over the York Hall or any other "hallowed venue" in my opinion.

I doubt anyone doing at the top level of Muay Thai in the UK gets anywhere near what even a journeyman boxer get.

Lets say you had a six fight bill with the home fighter getting a £1.5k and the away fight getting £1k. Straight away you are up to £15k. Now I am sure you can find cheaper lads but you wont find many and the home fighters will take tickets instead of cash but its still an opportunity cost. So lets say you are doing well and the purses tally to £12k inc ticket cost.

Then you have a late pull out and have to pay over the odds to get a replacement fighter in at short notice.

Thats before you look at venue cost, ring, security, MC and sound system, refs, judges, board fees, doctor and stewards etc, ambulance, ringcard girls, ticket girls, tickets and posters, marketing, whip, yadda yadda yadda!

You'd be doing well to limbo under £20k. Now there are short cuts but you often get what you pay for.

Thats nearly 700 tickets (inc boxers own sold) at £30 each just to break even. Not a doddle that, especially in the current climate.

If you can get a bit of sponsorship to ease the pain then that makes it a lot easier.

I am sure you can do it for £10k though but it would be a miserable spectacle I reckon.

 

Agh it all depends on if another certain bill show is announced, which is likely. If it is then I will slink back into the mists. No rush with it as I am still (relatively) young.

 

slap you might know this i was under the impression that a current fighter couldnt run a promotion hes fightin on in ireland is that true?
