How much does flexibility play a part in Jiu Jitsu

    really, I always though that myself just from watching,

    what in your opinion makes it so important in jiu jitsu and the advantages of it ?

    I´m not a jiu-jitsu fighter.....there are posters who can help you better here.....I will say just my opinion

    And IMO it´s essential for defensive skills......and also offensive skills.....Is much easier to find the holes in the opponent when you´re flexible....you can survive against submission attempts much better, etc.....

    Well, it´s very important for everything.....

    I always been of that opinion myself, but I have zero knowledge of Jiu Jitsu

    hence why I started the thread, see what the Jiu Jitsu guys have to say about it,

    be interesting to see what there opinion is

    It helps but isn't essential to be overly flexible. You can often compensate for lack of flexibility by knowing where to put your hips..if that makes any sense?

    As stated above - it's a gigantic advantage. Some systems require flexibiltiy to use their techniques properly. I was never very flexible so I could never do well using Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet style of jiujitsu. It's no problem though because you just adapt your techniques to a way that works for you.
