when in the fight you are losing and everything seems to indicate that you will be defeated... being mentally strong helps you to continue giving your best effort despite the circumstances... and if you are defeated accept defeat and not get depressed... this it has a lot to do with real life when people have addictions and try to put them aside... how could you be a mentally strong person with clear goals
It means a lot. It's another trait that'd you have to attribute to what a fighter is either born with, or born without. A fighter who's mentally tough can be just as dangerous as a fighter who's very fast. It's usually another trait to factor in a fight. But it's an important one. You could be the world's greatest puncher but if you're not confident, it'll mean nothing. Same as if you're scared to take a punch. If a fighter can't keep it together, and the other can, nine times out of ten, that fighter loses.
Its a huge part of a champions success. As an example look at big Audley, he had all the physical attributes but his Heart and chin to an extent were terrible.
I think it's in the top 5 for a boxer to succeed in the sport. Bottom of the 5 though. 1) physical ability 2) talent 3) promotion 4) nationality 5) mental strength
Duran's '' "No Mas" is an exceptional example of how much mental strenght counts in boxing.
