First of all I would just like to say that I am new to the eastsideboxing forum and am looking forward to discussing this great sport with you all. :good My first question for this forum is in regards to "Big" Michael Grant's future career outlook. Exactly how far do you think he can go at this point of his career. I for one think that he can still make some noise in the division if he keeps in shape and active, and gets a trainer in his corner who will re-establish the basic fundamentals of boxing. He is only what? 33 years old? Not too old for todays division. I admit that he definitely lost something when he lost to Lewis, something that perhaps he wouldn't have if Lewis hadn't cheated (couldn't resist, had to throw that one in ) but that doesn't necessarily mean that he has ABSOLUTELY nothing left. I don't know much about his current trainer, what's his background? Any thoughts?
he has still been active fighting. His confidence just got wrecked though. That and his chin will betray him. I remember when he was regarded as being the future of the division, along with Joe Mesi and Dominick Guinn. Oh how times have changed.
he's actually 36, but that ain't too old. probably not much left but he should step it up to find out as he's not getting younger. he beat enough c (and d) level guys now so he should be looking for some better opponents.
Oh come on. It at least takes decent fighters to stop Wlad, and he doesn't get knocked out cold either. When Grant faces anyone about fringe contender status he gets starched. And all he's been facing since the last time he got KTFO are low level journeymen and tomato cans. If he faces a live body again, he will be starched again - count on it. Oh, and btw, Grant is 36, not 33. Chins don't get better with age either.
Indeed. Grant is done at the world class level. The best he can hope for it to be a "name opponent" for an up and comer and make a little cash he can put away for retirement.
Typo, sorry about that. I don't know, I guess I just love the story about an old warhorse getting one last hurrah before being put out to pasture. He's not that old though. Any idea on who his next opponent will be? Probably nobody important, but Im still interested in his career. I don't know if anybody has seen any of his recent fights, but if so, how'd he look? Were they even on tv? And what the hell is vcash?
yeah i'd be pulling for him (he's from the philly area like me). the front page says he's looking to fight 11/15 and it sounds like it'll be against another low ranked guy and it says they're looking to step up after another fight from that one. haven't seen his recent fights: he stopped kevin montiy whom i've seen and didn't think he was a total bum. he also stopped zumbrun who bowe was gifted a decision over.
He has stringed in 6 victories against medicore opponents since his last lost to Guinn in 2003 . . . he is now 44 (33KOs) - 3 loses at the age of 36 . . . I don't know what's left in him . . . but it seems not much.
Well whether he has anything left in him or not, I will continue to root for him and follow his career to see if he still has what it takes to tango with the big guys. So about this vcash...??
