I will say this, Grant truly does not deserve the level of abuse he gets subjected to from the media. He failed to reach the top level and didn't live up to the hype...that's all. But because certain quarters were embarrassed after backing him, some partly out of patriotic hope, the scramble to deride him has often been pretty pathetic. He deserves a lot more than being a lame punchline.

As for what he's got left?

Problem is he's only had 3 defeats, but they've all been shattering, morale-draining ones. Physically he's still in top shape, as he's always been consistantly throughout his career. The jab is still heavy, the combinations to the head and body can still flow when he lets his hands go.

But he seems to have regressed to the kind of fighter he looked like back around '96, '97. Too robotic in movement, too often falling in and being shut down in the clinch, and too often over-cautious about throwing his shots.

I'd really like to see Grant end his career with a finale that satisfys him. The media view him as a joke but on the other hand would eat up the 'comeback from disaster' story with a spoon. There are fighters, ranked fighters, out there he can beat. At the higher level though you just feel he's a puzzle that's already been worked out.

Best wishes to the guy, though.

Yes, but at least he had confidence as long as he was winning. Fighting with confidence he was a top10 guy, but since he is losing, he is so unsure of what to do in the ring, he is not even top30. His performance vs. Guinn was painful to watch. Grant is a great example that you cant do jack in sports without confidence.

Just seen he's fighting again on Nov 16th, currently against the dreaded TBA.
That'll be his 4th fight on this current comeback trail.

And to think i had serious worrys in the build up to he's fight with lennox that he could pull the upset ( how naive of me lol) as they made him up to be the newcoming . maybe the rest has done him good but the fact remains he just cant cut it with the top boys. thing is the division is alot weaker now so who knows what he can do

True, Atlas did **** him up. His managers panicked after loss to Lewis, and fired Grant's trainer, hiring ******* Atlas. It was all downhill from there.

Not much at all, he never had a good enough chance back when he was younger and better.

Not much, he could in theory work his way up but I just don't see it happening.

Michael Grant is a great guy and a great athlete, however he does not have the fighting instincs that one develops from fighting at an early age, this was very evident in the lewis fight. he doesnt have a mind for boxing or the instincts. he could probably do very well in other sports im sure. with his size and talents, he could probably win some decent fights with a solid jab. he could fight the lower to mid level of the heavyweight division for 5 more years and win by out muscleing less talented boxers. he wont be top ten again but thats okay, still a good athelete who did not deserve the criticism he got.

He's forever ruined. Not even sure why he's still fighting. If he thinks he has even a slight chance in hell of winning a championship, he's wasting his time. Chin and confidence completely shot. Where can one go from there, especially in the HW division?

Did you see his fight with Gilbert Martinez? It's not a matter of what he has left cuz I'm sure there's something there. It's the fact that he doesn't use it. His confidence has been gone for a long time. If he's winning fights (I guess he has been recently) it's because the opposition has been extremely weak. He was a solid fighter who scored some pretty good victories in his career but the Lewis fight did him in and the McCline fight left him a shell.
