To get the respect of the boxing fans over the next 2/3 years. I actually side with him "a little" on the 50/50 split debate so let's forget about money for a sec. how many wins does he need who does he need to beat and does he have to win in a special/interesting way?? I'm starting to think we are never going to have one heavyweight champ when just a few years ago I truly believed AJ and wilder would solve that heavyweight problem. IMO If wider beats Ortiz and povetkin(or someone on that level) I'll be more comfortable saying he deserves 50/50 split with AJ and then it will be his fault it ain't down.
He actually has to fight relevant fights. All the talk won't change that and neither will a reality T.V show if he goes through with that, it will just add to his comedy of doing even less in the ring.
Fight actual top 10 rated fighters is a good start, maybe even a top 5 opponent if it isn't too much to ask?! You really believe his ridiculous 50/50 demand is any way near realistic when nearly all the money will come from Joshua's side?
Wilder is a magnificent talent IMO. He needs more name sin his resume.. I dont completly blame him for this however as the HW division has been in the dumpster for quite a few years even though it aint that bad now.. One thing he could do is stop asking for the 50/50 split with Wilder and after he wins then he can get whatever he wants.. I do think he beats Joshua. I mean hell make a lot of money anyway.. AJ and promoter will want a rematch and then he can call the shots
I'm fine with him wanting 50/50, I'm not fine with money getting in the way of fights. Has his promote approached Joshua with a 50/50 offer, and actual legit one? I mean like it or not right now Joshua is the number 1 fighter in the world, the onus is not on him to go chasing fights. So to answer your question, if Wilder wants my respect he needs to make the fight with Joshua.
He might never get it, but as long as he keeps winning it doesn't matter. Fighters that have accomplished far more than Wilder sometimes never get any respect. Holyfield was 28-0 as well as Undisputed Champ and beat good competition, but got very little respect. He only got props when he got older and started losing. Bradley was 31-0 and a long time champ at 140, but only got respect when he started losing. Larry Holmes was 48-0 and was WBC champ far longer than Wilder was and never got respect in his prime. When he made his comeback past prime and started losing to top competition regularly he finally got a little respect. Joe Calzaghe and Rocky Marciano both retired undefeated and also get very little respect.
What he has to do to earn our respect? Face somebody decent then we can atleast have an idea about how seriously he needs to be taken. If the Ortiz fight happens its a good start. But thats where the problem is, nearly 40 fights in and only now is he actually going to be in with somebody wit real credibility. Thats happened plenty of times in Boxing history and it sets alarm bells ringing for Boxing fans cuz usually they eventually step up and get a massive pasting and are never heard from again. Whats he gotta do to deserve 50-50 with Joshua? Get some fans, get some backing and bring something to the table. Face and beat a good name or 2 and the American armchair fans will soon give him their backing. Say what you want about Klitchko being an old man but Heard and Joshua can shout out loud they have beaten the great Wladimir Klithcko. Who can Wilder shout out loud about? Stiverne?
Beating Ortiz is a start. If he does fight AJ I think that cosmic right hand will crack that British glass into smithereens.
For some of those hopelessly emotional haters, Wilder has to soak up the sun, nothing less...and then they will still complain about the colder climate...
To get respect he needs to beat higher level fighters than special needs teachers, pastry chefs, footballs hooligans and fat as **** buffet munchers. Beating Granpa Ortiz would be good.
"How much does Wilder have to do to get the respect of the boxing fans over the next 2/3 years" Fight top ten fighers. How many genuine top 10 fighters has he fought after, what 39 fights?.. Whyte for $4m and he refused.. Accept a huge career pay day with AJ for 30-35%..Don't price yourself out.. If he wants a 50/50 split of a world title fight, bring Parker to Alabama and get 50% of not a lot.
Until he fights an actual top 10 fighter, or until he gets into a close fight against one of his top 20-50 usual calibre then no one is going to take him seriously. I would go as far to say that he would get more respect losing to AJ or Parker and being competitive, than carrying on with the current course. The reason why both Tyson Fury and AJ get more respect is because they had the balls to face a post 40 year old Wlad. Wilder had numerous chances to do so but ducked every time. At the moment he is the most ridiculed boxer on this forum. When you hear his name you think of burger king, Dustin Nicholls and Harold Sconiers sumo wrestling and a Polish cab driver.
Deontay Wilder hasn’t fought one single boxer of note in his whole career of 39 no contests, he has run and ducked everyone who offers the slightest threat to him. His last non contest against a fat and unwilling Bremane Stiverne brought nothing but international derision and ridicule to the Heavy Weight Championship. Stiverne had not fought for 2 years, had been in one (ahem) fight in 3 years against Derek Rossey who isn’t ranked inside the top 100. The very fact that the WBC made him their Nō1 mandatory Challenger only served to betray their collusion with Wilders team in their attempts to protect him. With that being the type of opponent for his whole 39 fight non resume and with that form of fraudulent management around him then Deontay Wilder remains nothing more than a freak show, a bearded lady or half man & half chicken circus attraction. He will never wake up to this fact and thus will. Never be relevant
