Floyd can stop fighting at the age of 40 if he wants to. I don't think I'd want to see him against any speedy athletic WW at that age. But if there aren't any of those fast athletically gifted boxers around at WW or JMW by that time, then i think he'll use his fundamental skills to compete against them and even beat most of them.
you gotta be crazy if u havent noticed that floyd is past his prime and declined a lil bit. watch the gatti and marquez fight then watch the Mosley and Ortiz fight. 2 completely different Floyds
Mosley and Ortiz were much tougher matchups- much bigger guys, and Floyd's speed was still blistering against Ortiz. He's become much more aggressive and flat footed, and I think that has to do more with his confidence and settling into 147 rather than a decline in agility, footwork, etc.
hes slowed down a bit. still fast though, and his timing, technique and ring iq is the best in the game by far
I can't say exactly but I like his transformation into a pocket counter puncher and I find his style now exciting.
I think Floyd has declined as well. The fights you named, Floyd approached them differently. In the Gatti fight, Floyd sat in the pocket and countered Gatti. Floyd basically out boxed Marquez. He just peppered Marquez all night with his jab and left hook. Floyd walked Ortiz and Mosley down. That is how Floyd looks when he applies pressure. I remember people telling me Floyd's footwork looked poor against Judah. It's pretty clear that Floyd isn't in his prime because of his age. Floyd is turning 35 in a few days. The only way a fighter would be in his prime is if he started boxing late. Floyd only has 3 fights left IMO.
He's obviously not going to be as quick or active as he was at 130, irrespective of age. But his approach has definitely changed since his comeback, he seems to be more reliant on his strength and timing than speed and movement. Once he loses his timing that's it for his time as an elite fighter. No doubt his power and ring iq have improved though. It's why I'm no longer interested in the may-Pac fight, both are past their primes and the opportunity has been missed.
I believe he has had two primes, his stint at 130 before moving up, and the stint he's on now since Baldomir. In the true sense, there can only be one prime, so I go 130 by a long shot. His 147 and up resume is shaping up nicely.
No, Im not crazy but I have noticed that Floyd has changed his style of fighting since Mosley fight to be more aggressive. This change has made you thought that he has declined. I noticed this but you didn't.
He's declined quite a bit, much slower, legs have deteriated quite a bit, less movement, less combinations and has been hit more in his last 2 fights than usually would be the case. He's still quicker than most out there and still very hard to hit
Skills are all still Intact, he never relied on speed or power, It's all about Timing and IQ in the ring, and he still is A+ in that. His Mobility has decreased, but now his output and Aggressiveness has increased to make up for the Mobility loss. Mayweather's style will only keep getting better with Experience just like JMM or Hopkins, fighter that fight with Brains will never really decrease or Decline in a fast pace, like pressure Aggressive fighters like Pac who rely on speed and Mobility which decreases as age increases. So in Conclusion, NOT much.
mayweather def did slow down a little but his ring iq has gotten even better so atletically hes not in his prime but maby he dint even reach his prime mentaly.its crazy to think somebody like martinez who uses is athletic abiltys more so then technique hit his prime at 35
